They spent the day sorting costumes of different types into storage crates and photographing everything so that they can make a catalogue of costumes and props. KATS chairman Jules McColl explains: “We are hugely grateful to Liz and David Raeburn who have recently allowed us to use two of their barns for storage of costumes and equipment. Our normal performance place is Malborough Village Hall but we don’t have room there to store props or … [Read more...] about KATS is calling all seamstresses, builders and crafters!
A SUSPENDED prison term imposed on a builder and pub owner for cheating the revenue out of more than £400,000 was unduly lenient, the Court of Appeal ruled today. But senior judges in Belfast decided not to send Bartley Murphy to jail due to the legal principle surrounding double jeopardy. However, they imposed a new fine of £200,000 after declaring the original £15,000 financial penalty "grossly inadequate". Murphy (53) from Ardglass Road in Downpatrick, Co Down, pleaded guilty to a single count of cheating HM Revenue and Customs out of taxes over an eight-year-period. SWELTERING builders told they could not wear shorts under health and safety rules beat the ban — by turning up in skirts. The brickies, working on a development of flats and houses in 26°C heat, were stunned when told a long trousers-only dress code was in force on their site. But they realised they could beat the ruling under gender equality regulations, so all agreed to arrive in frocks and skirts. Some nipped to the ladies department in Tesco while others raided their partners’ wardrobes. And yesterday scaffolding at the Bellway Homes development in Chertsey, Surrey, was turned into a multi-coloured catwalk. Bearded Simon Miles, 45, who wore a denim skirt nicked from his missus to match caramel Dewalt boots, said: “I’ve heard nothing like it in 20 years. “I turned up for work on Monday and was told my legs had to be covered on site. “Shorts were made for brickies. I was going to find another job and some of the other lads … [Read more...] about Builders working in the hot sun beat a no-shorts rule by turning up in frocks and skirts
