Anthem-Kneeler Megan Rapinoe to Receive Presidential Medal of Freedom
Megan Rapinoe, anthem kneeler and outspoken advocate of almost every left-wing cause, is set to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Joe Biden. The announcement came Friday that Rapinoe, a captain on the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT), and 16 others had been selected to receive the nation’s highest civilian honor. While the USWNT has reigned as one of the top women’s teams in the world during Rapinoe’s time on the roster, the decision to award her with such an honor most likely stems from Rapinoe’s relentless advocacy of liberal causes. Most recently, the USWNT vet made waves by blasting men for remaining “silent” after the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade . “You’ve been silent to us, as a whole,” she said, “Stand up, say something. This is your wife, this is your sister, this is your friend, this is your girlfriend, this is the mother of your children. This is all of us. And you are allowing a violent and consistent onslaught on the autonomy of … [Read more...] about Anthem-Kneeler Megan Rapinoe to Receive Presidential Medal of Freedom
Rugby-Rennie hails Wallabies character after England jinx broken
(Reuters) - Wallabies coach Dave Rennie said smart leadership, character a and a nerveless performance from stand-in flyhalf Noah Lolesio were behind 14-man Australia's victory over England in the first of three July tests on Saturday. The win was a significant breakthrough for the Wallabies, who had failed to beat England in eight matches since Eddie Jones took over as coach, including a 3-0 home series loss in 2016 and a humbling quarter-final defeat at the last World Cup. It was all the more impressive as it came after Quade Cooper was ruled out with a calf strain picked up in the warm- up, a serious injury to fullback Tom Banks in the 21st minute, and the red card shown to lock Darcy Swain after 34 minutes. "I thought the boys did some fantastic problem-solving out on the park and to get our nose in front by 16 (points) late in the piece was impressive," Rennie said. "We've been in this position before. The great thing about our group is there's no panic, we've got … [Read more...] about Rugby-Rennie hails Wallabies character after England jinx broken
Rugby-Fired-up Wales will want to prove a point, says Bok skipper
JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South Africa captain Siya Kolisi says there will be no better way for Wales to bounce back from their shock Six Nations loss to Italy in March than to beat the Springboks in front of 52,000 fans at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday. The teams clash in the first of three tests with Wales coming off a disappointing Six Nations campaign that was capped by the dismal home defeat to the Italians. But Kolisi will not write off the tourists' chances and says the Springboks were in a similar position just a few years before they lifted the 2019 Rugby World Cup when they slipped to number seven in the world rankings. "We have been there too. We are no ones to be laughing at anyone," Kolisi told reporters on Friday. "I played in a team that lost against Japan for the first time and we also lost against Italy. We have been there and know what it feels like. "They are in a tough situation, but that can bring a side together. What better way to get out of … [Read more...] about Rugby-Fired-up Wales will want to prove a point, says Bok skipper
Morgan set to announce international retirement
England’s World Cup winning skipper Eoin Morgan is set to announce his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday after a career spanning 16 years during which he amassed over 10,000 runs across ODIs and T20Is. According to a report in Sky Sports, the 35-year-old Dublin-born Morgan wanted to lead England at this year’s T20 World Cup in Australia but he had a change of heart after struggling with his form and fitness in the last 18 months. Morgan captained England in the first two ODI games against the Netherlands this month but failed to open his account on both the occasion. He subsequently missed the third game due to a groin niggle. Vice-captain Jos Buttler is likely to replace him as England skipper and the upcoming white-ball series against India could be his first assignment. Morgan made his debut for Ireland in 2006 but then after three years he switched his alliance to England in 2009. The elegant left-handed batter, who played in the middle-order, has so far … [Read more...] about Morgan set to announce international retirement

Eng vs Ind, 5th Test, Day 2 | England 84-5 at stumps against India
England were 84 for five at stumps on the second day of the rain-hit rescheduled fifth Test against India here on Saturday. Jonny Bairstow and skipper Ben Stokes were batting on 12 and 0 respectively with England still trailing India by 332 runs. Ravindra Jadeja reaffirmed his status as India's most valuable player across formats with a superbly crafted hundred before skipper Jasprit Bumrah took centre-stage, first smashing a world record and then blowing away England top-order on a rain-hit second day of the rescheduled fifth Test. At tea, England were struggling at 60 for 3 as a nicely warmed-up Bumrah first castled opener Alex Lees (6) with a delivery that came in with the angle. Then, in the post-lunch session, he got twice lucky as he removed Zak Crawley (9) and Ollie Pope (10) with the 'seventh' delivery of his third and sixth overs respectively. Both were fuller deliveries which enticed the two right-handers to go for drives as Shubman Gill at third slip and Shreyas … [Read more...] about Eng vs Ind, 5th Test, Day 2 | England 84-5 at stumps against India
Gerrit Cole’s solid start, Matt Carpenter’s 2 homers lead Yankees to 13-4 rout over Guardians
CLEVELAND — The Yankees don’t let losses linger. After falling to the Astros on Thursday — and a rainout Friday — the Bombers simply got back to business. Gerrit Cole threw six solid innings, Matt Carpenter homered twice and the Yankees clobbered the Guardians 13-4 at Progressive Field Saturday in the first game of a day-night split doubleheader. The Yankees improved to 16-5 in games following a loss this season. Through 78 games, the Yankees have tied the second-best start to the season in the majors over the last 93 years. They tied the 2001 Mariners, who lost the American League Championship Series that season, and are one game off the pace of the 1998 Yankees, who won the World Series that year. They are now 18-5 against teams from the American League Central and 4-0 against the Guardians, who had a two-game winning streak snapped. Cole allowed two runs on three hits. He walked three and struck out six. He gave up two home runs. He has allowed 14 this season and only allowed … [Read more...] about Gerrit Cole’s solid start, Matt Carpenter’s 2 homers lead Yankees to 13-4 rout over Guardians
