Google and MeitY Startup Hub, an initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), on Wednesday announced a cohort of 100 Indian early to mid-stage startups, to help these startups build high-quality global apps and games as part of the Appscale Academy. As part of the six-month programme, the 100 startups will be trained through a customised curriculum designed to help them drive high-quality apps for a global market. India’s U-17 Women’s team were handed a humiliating 0-7 defeat by Italy at the Grandisco D’lsonzo, in the female football tournament on the 22nd of June. India had started the game well by trying to press high up the pitch and capitalise on any mistakes by the opposition, much like coach Thomas Dennerby would have liked them to do as tackles were flying in from both teams. Italy were awarded a free kick in the 4th minute of the match which was struck just wide of the mark by Beatrice. The Mediterranean team nearly took the lead a minute later though, as Indian shot-stopper Monalisa has managed to keep out Giulia Dragoni’s attempt on target at full stretch.  However, the Azzuri women took the lead thanks to Maria Rossi’s attempt that found the back of the net. As Puri gears up for this year’s Rath Yatra, Lord Jagannath is under quarantine or Anasar. Wondering why? It is part of the rituals preceding the yatra. Every year, during Anasara, the three deities — Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra — are put in 14-day quarantine. According to mythology, the deities suffer from a fever due to the prolonged bathing after the Devasnana Purnima. During this period, devotees are forbidden from seeing the idols. The deities are kept in the ‘Anasara Pindi’, where they are treated with herbal medicines and specially prepared oils. Daitapati Sevayats perform secret rituals to cure the holy trinity. Pana Bhoga is offered and a special oil, Phuluri Tela, is applied. During the Anasara, Patti Dian or the traditional Pattachitra paintings of the three deities are worshipped as proxies to the original idols. “It is an ancient tradition we perform every year. When Ustad Lachchman Singh Seen, a Himachali Rajput, passed away recently, he was identified more with Punjab and the tabla, since he was the last celebrated disciple of Punjab gharana doyen, Ustad Mian Qadir Baksh. Heritage City Puri is geared up for Rath Yatra as preparations are in full swing for Nabajouban darshan of Lord Jagannath and his sibling deities of Jagannath temple in Puri. The deities are all set to reappear before the devotees in their rejuvenated youthful form, having spent 14 days in Anasara ghara (sick room), on Wednesday. On the Nabajouban Darshan day which is also called Netra Utshab, devotees will be allowed to have darshan of the deities. While pramanik darshan (paid ticket holders) will be allowed from 8 am to 9 am, ‘Sahana mela’ or free darshan will be held from 9 am to 10.30 am, 2 pm to 3 pm and 6 pm to 6.30 pm. Lakhs of devotees are expected to throng the Badadanda to get a glimpse of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhdra, and Devi Subhadra on Wednesday morning.
