The hostage crisis in Gladbeck, North Rhine-Westphalia, took place after the failed armed robbery of Deutche Bank in August 1988. Two thugs were on the run from August 16 to August 18 starting in Germany and ending up in the Netherlands. The incident shun a negative light on Germany's media and police force because of how the pair were dealt with.
