You Have No Idea How Good Mosquitoes Are at Smelling Us
Nothing gets a female mosquito going quite like the stench of human BO . The chase can begin from more than 100 feet away , with a plume of breath that wafts carbon dioxide onto the nubby sensory organ atop the insect’s mouth. Her senses snared, she flies person-ward, until her antennae start to buzz with the pungent perfume of skin. Lured closer still, she homes in on her host’s body heat, then touches down on a landing pad of flesh that she can taste with her legs . She punctures her victim with her spear-like stylet and slurps the iron-rich blood within. The entire ritual is intricate and obsessive—and nearly impossible to disrupt. Of more than 3,500 mosquito species that skulk about the planet, fewer than 10 percent (and only the females, at that) enjoy nibbling on humans. But once they’re on the prowl for people, neither rain nor zappers nor citronella candles will deter them. From the tips of their antennae to the bottoms of their little insect feet, these … [Read more...] about You Have No Idea How Good Mosquitoes Are at Smelling Us
Ryan Reynolds surprises fan with 100 signed copies of movies
Ryan Reynolds has surprised a DVD shop owner and lifelong fan with more than 100 signed copies of the Hollywood star's own movies. Movie buff Rob Clarke, 45, who runs Mad4Movies, in Wrexham, Wales, couldn't believe it when he got a message from the Deadpool actor on Twitter . Clarke met Wrexham co-owner Reynolds last year while he was in town filming the Welcome to Wrexham documentary, set to air on Disney+ this month. Clarke said he and his wife Blake Lively had been clearing out their office when they found the haul of old movies, and thought Rob might like them for his shop. Clarke thought the message was a hoax at first until his wife Carrie, 38, told him it was real. The haul of 103 movies are all movies Reynolds and Lively have starred in, including Deadpool 2 , The Age Of Adaline , The Rhythm Section and The Voices . Clarke said he has no idea what the films are worth but plans to sell them for charity—and has earmarked some that he will keep for himself. … [Read more...] about Ryan Reynolds surprises fan with 100 signed copies of movies

Daughter of killed cop escorted to first school day by dozens of officers
A five-year-old in Ohio had a welcome to school like no other when dozens of police officers escorted her into her first day of kindergarten . Lilly is the daughter of fallen Kirkersville, Ohio police chief Eric Disario, who was shot and killed during an incident at a nursing home in 2017. Lilly was born just two days after his funeral. Five years later, this week marked Lilly's first day of kindergarten . "It's another milestone my husband had to miss," Lily's mother Aryn Disario told WBNS. Disario might not have been there for her first day at school, but officers across the state ensured his presence wasn't forgotten. Almost two dozen law enforcement officers pulled up outside the family home on Wednesday morning. Lilly was driven into school in the back of Licking County Sheriff's Office Detective Adam Beach's police car. Beach was the man behind the gesture and even organized a "walk of honor" into the school for the five-year-old. "It's all for you because … [Read more...] about Daughter of killed cop escorted to first school day by dozens of officers
What Weisselberg’s guilty plea means for Trumps
The Trump Organization's former chief financial officer plead guilty Thursday to 15 felonies on Thursday and admitted he conspired with the company to avoid taxes on corporate benefits. Allen Weisselberg reached a plea deal with the Manhattan district attorney's office that will likely have major implications for the Trump Organization. Weisselberg is expected to be sentenced to five months in prison with potential time off for good behavior, which means he could end up serving around 100 days. However, Weisselberg's plea deal does not include cooperation in a wider probe into former President Donald Trump and he will not implicate Trump by pleading guilty. Weisselberg will be required to testify at a trial concerning charges against the Trump Organization due to begin in October if prosecutors call on him to do so. His testimony could prove a major factor in the outcome of that trial. Trump has not been charged with any crime arising from the investigation and … [Read more...] about What Weisselberg’s guilty plea means for Trumps

Lack of Financial Model, Absence of Administrative Autonomy Hampering Growth of IITs: Former IIT Delhi Director
