A number of Republicans are still scheduled to attend a National Rifle Association event in Houston, Texas, just days after the Uvalde school shooting. The NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) Leadership Forum will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center from Friday to Sunday. The annual event by the pro-gun lobby group is being held as the debate on gun reform in the country has been reignited in the wake of the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School , which left 19 children and two teachers dead, as well as criticism of the influence the NRA has over lawmakers in the country. As with previous years, the NRA meeting will feature a number of Republicans as guest speakers, as well as the NRA's head, Wayne LaPierre, and Jason Ouimet, the executive director of the group's lobbying arm. The biggest name scheduled to speak is Donald Trump , who confirmed he will still be attending the event despite it being held just days after the Uvalde massacre. … [Read more...] about NRA convention 2022 attendees—Full list of Republicans appearing in Texas

Johnny Depp trial is driving a new online economy. This ex-LA prosecutor is all in
LOS ANGELES: Emily D. Baker is exasperated. In the penultimate week of Amber Heard and Johnny Depp's defamation trial, Baker at times rises from her seat in her home studio or fans herself with a small blue book of the federal rules of evidence as she delivers a steaming critique of Heard's attorney Elaine Bredehoft. "This is preposterous, Elaine! You don't do speaking objections," Baker, 44, seethes as red lights flash to indicate another thousand subscribers have signed up to her channel. A so-called super-chat message flashes across the screen from a viewer who paid US$10 (RM44) to let the audience know she thinks the judge is being too easy on Bredehoft. "This is a mess, and the jury is going to see it's a mess," Baker adds. It is just another day in the weekslong trial for this former Los Angeles deputy district attorney turned YouTuber whose livestreamed commentary has drawn audiences surpassing that of mainstream outlets like Fox or Entertainment Tonight on the platform. Maruti Suzuki to Build New 800-Acre Manufacturing Plant in Haryana
India’s biggest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, will build a manufacturing plant that can produce up to 250,000 cars a year on an 800-acre site in northern Haryana state, it said on Friday. The plant is expected to produce its first car by 2025, and the company would invest over 110 billion Indian rupees ($1.42 billion) in the first phase of the project, it said. The investment by Maruti, which accounts for nearly half the cars produced in India, marks the first major planned investment by a carmaker in years. The move comes at a time when most Indian carmakers are battling a slump in sales due to subdued demand in turn due to rising inflation and supply issues, including a global semiconductor shortage. “The site will have space for capacity expansion to include more manufacturing plants in the future,” Maruti said in an exchange filing on Friday. Maruti, known for selling affordable, small cars in a price-sensitive market, did not say what type of cars it intends to manufacture. … [Read more...] about Maruti Suzuki to Build New 800-Acre Manufacturing Plant in Haryana
How Broadcom CEO Tan shaped a tech giant through acquisitions
(Reuters) - Once a poor "skinny kid" from Malaysia, Hock Tan was going head-to-head with a legendary U.S. technology mogul for a transformative acquisition. Tan placed a call earlier this month to VMware Inc Chairman Michael Dell, also the chief executive of computer maker Dell Technologies Inc. He proposed one of the biggest tie-ups in the history of the technology sector. Broadcom Inc, the chip maker that Tan leads, was willing to acquire VMware, a cloud software company for $61 billion. For Tan, now 70, the deal would be the culmination of a string of acquisitions that has helped him turn Broadcom into a technology conglomerate worth $225 billion, along the way building a reputation as an astute dealmaker and ruthless cost-cutter. Dell, who personally owns 40% of VMware and controls it together with buyout firm Silver Lake, had a decision to make. Hold out for a better deal or risk losing out as technology stocks plunged amid concerns about a looming economic slowdown … [Read more...] about How Broadcom CEO Tan shaped a tech giant through acquisitions
