6 Huskers poised to break out during the Nebraska football spring game

· April 20, 2018 ·

The spring game is an opportunity for players to solidify roles heading into next season, and here are three each on offense and defense that are poised to break out during Saturday's Red-White scrimmage:OffenseWide receiver Mike Williams What we’re hearing about Williams this spring is similar to what we heard about JD Spielman the spring before his breakout freshman year. Williams is fast, he’s elusive and coaches are giddy over him. The junior college transfer from East Mississippi Community College caught 30 passes for 669 yards and seven touchdowns en route to EMCC’s national title a season ago. He led the team with 23.2 yards per catch. Williams is a home run hitter, which the Scott Frost offense thrives on. With Tyjon Lindsey and Spielman both playing in that slot, it’ll be worth watching how Williams — and the other two — all fit organically into the offense.Wide receiver Jaevon McQuittyAmid Tyjon Lindsey’s last-minute commitment and … [Read more...] about 6 Huskers poised to break out during the Nebraska football spring game

Husker football ticket records reveal large gap between announced attendance and number of fans who show up

· April 5, 2018 ·

LINCOLN — The first year of the Scott Frost era may get the biggest crowds in Memorial Stadium history. Before the season kicks off, however, it appears the Nebraska game that drew the most fans in the seats may be NU’s 35-32 win over Oregon in 2016.The World-Herald obtained the total of tickets scanned for each of the last 28 home games — over four seasons — and found the highest number (80,865) was the Huskers-Ducks thriller. NU didn’t have data available for the 2013 season, the first year Memorial Stadium’s capacity topped 90,000. Memorial Stadium’s attendance record — 91,585 — is tied to Nebraska’s 41-31 win over Miami in 2014. The scanned tickets for that game totaled 78,694, or 2,171 fewer than the 2016 Oregon game.Scanned tickets don’t include recruits, media, ushers, coaches, staff, players, cheerleaders, the band, concession workers, etc., so it’s not the total attendance inside the stadium. And scanned … [Read more...] about Husker football ticket records reveal large gap between announced attendance and number of fans who show up

Practice report: Husker wide receiver Tyjon Lindsey says playing for Scott Frost “a dream come true”

· April 6, 2018 ·

LINCOLN — Tyjon Lindsey was supposed to go to Oregon. At least that was the plan. The 4-star wide receiver loved Scott Frost's offense. He was clicking with running back De'Anthony Thomas on visits to Eugene, Oregon. Thomas was telling the high school sophomore all the things he could do in Frost's offense as a Duck.  But Frost left for UCF, and so Lindsey backed away from Oregon and ended up at Nebraska.  Which makes this whole situation in Lincoln a pretty sweet deal for Lindsey, he said after practice Saturday. "I was all said and done to go to Oregon and then he left, so it was like a dream come true now that it's here," Lindsey said. Lindsey said he was "in his head" a little too much his freshman year, when he caught 12 balls for 76 yards. When Mike Riley's staff was fired in December, which included wide receivers coach Keith Williams, Lindsey said the rest of the wide receivers talked about what their next move was. But they decided to all … [Read more...] about Practice report: Husker wide receiver Tyjon Lindsey says playing for Scott Frost “a dream come true”
