A euthanasia expert unveils his ‘suicide machine’ at an Amsterdam funeral fair

But euthanasia activist Philip Nitschke thinks he's about to revolutionize how we die. At a funeral fair in Amsterdam last week, he showed off his "suicide machine." The "Sarco," short for sarcophagus, is designed to "provide people with a death when they wish to die," Nitschke, an Australian national, told the news agency Agence France-Presse. It comes with a detachable coffin and a hookup for a nitrogen container. Here's how it would work, according to Nitschke. Users would first take an online test to determine whether they were sane. If they cleared the test, they would be sent an access code, valid for 24 hours. They'd then get into the capsule, close the door and press a button to have the nitrogen pipe in. The dinner between the two leaders has been thoughtfully prepared to reflect the meeting's historic significance. Amsterdam: Victims of Afghan Knifeman are Americans

AMSTERDAM (AP) — Two people wounded in a knife attack at the Dutch capital’s busy main railway station on Friday are both American citizens who were visiting the Netherlands, the U.S. ambassador said Saturday as police investigated possible motives, including the possibility it was an extremist act. Police shot and wounded a 19-year-old Afghan man immediately after the attack and are questioning him as a suspect.A dramatic photo captured by a passerby shows two police officers pointing their pistols at a man wearing jeans and sneakers lying on the ground inside a tunnel in the station. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra issued a written statement saying embassy officials had been in touch with the victims or their families. Police say they have serious but not life-threatening injuries. Suspect Who Stabbed U.S. Tourists in Amsterdam Had ‘Terrorist’ Motive, Say Police

The Jewish News reports: Representatives of the Netherlands’ ruling party have asked the capital city’s government to explain why it allows antisemitic and anti-Israel incitement at a monument for victims of Nazism. Amsterdam City Council lawmakers Marianne Poot and Diederik Boomsma of the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy and the Christian Democratic Appeal, respectively, filed nine questions to the city government earlier this week in connection with Sunday’s edition of an action promoting a boycott of Israel that anti-Israel activists stage weekly at the Dam Square monument.That day, the action, which is usually limited to a handful activists, saw new participants, mostly Arab men but also Europeans and several women.
