The Supreme Court Wednesday asked the Centre to take a “pro-active role” in the All India Football Federation (AIFF) matter for facilitating the holding of the Under-17 Women’s World Cup in India and the lifting of the suspension of the country’s apex football body by FIFA. The top court deferred till the August 22 hearing on the AIFF matter after the Centre said it is in discussion with the International Football Federation (FIFA) over the holding of the U-17 Women’s world cup in India. A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, AS Bopanna, and JB Paridwala said, “We would impress upon the Union of India to take a pro-active role in the matter so that the holding of the Under-17 World Cup and the lifting of the suspension of AIFF, in order to achieve that object, is duly facilitated”. Kids-for-cash judges ordered to pay more than $200M

U.S. District Judge Christopher Conner awarded $106 million in compensatory damages and $100 million in punitive damages to nearly 300 people in a long-running civil suit against the judges, writing the plaintiffs are “the tragic human casualties of a scandal of epic proportions.” In what came to be known as the kids-for-cash scandal, Mark Ciavarella and another judge, Michael Conahan, shut down a county-run juvenile detention center and accepted $2.8 million in illegal payments from the builder and co-owner of two for-profit lockups. Ciavarella, who presided over juvenile court, pushed a zero-tolerance policy that guaranteed large numbers of kids would be sent to PA Child Care and its sister facility, Western PA Child Care. Ciavarella ordered children as young as 8 to … [Read more...] about Kids-for-cash judges ordered to pay more than $200M

Rudy Giuliani expected to testify before Georgia grand jury
ATLANTA - Rudy Giuliani is set to testify Wednesday morning before a Georgia special grand jury as part of a criminal probe into efforts to overturn the 2020 election. The former New York mayor, who was informed Monday that he is a target of the investigation, will be the highest-profile member of Donald Trump's inner circle to appear before grand jurors. His expected testimony marks a victory for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who has faced challenges in recent weeks as her office has worked to hear under oath from elected public officials and other Trump allies. Giuliani was one of the most committed and outspoken advocates for Trump's false assertions about the 2020 election, claiming before Georgia lawmakers multiple times that he possessed evidence of widespread voter fraud. State election officials quickly debunked those claims. Apple will attempt to get its employees to go back into the office after trying for over a year to no avail. This time, the company has set a September 5 deadline for corporate employees to be in the office at least three days a week. Last time the woke giant attempted to get its workers back into the office, it was branded as racist for trying.
