Pink urges anti-abortion fans not to listen to her music: “We’re fine”
Pop star Pink has made her feelings towards the anti-abortion movement incredibly clear, suggesting they never listen to her music ever again. In the light of the overturning of Roe v. Wade , the singer, whose real name is Alecia Beth Moore, sent out an impassioned tweet over the weekend. There has been a number of protests held since the Supreme Court made a ruling that returns "the issue of abortion to the people's elected representatives." Celebrities have reacted with fury while Democratic politicians have also voiced their disapproval of the Supreme Court's decision. Musician Olivia Rodrigo even staged a musical protest against the decision at the Glastonbury music festival in the U.K. "Let's be clear: if you believe the government belongs in a woman's uterus, a gay persons business or marriage, or that racism is okay," Pink wrote on Twitter , before continuing, in all caps, "Then please in the name of your lord never f******listen to my music again." She … [Read more...] about Pink urges anti-abortion fans not to listen to her music: “We’re fine”
For two California Republicans, diverging approaches to Trump lead to the same place: Backlash
Nearly a month after objecting to electoral votes cast for President Biden, Rep. Mike Garcia wanted to clear the air. In a lengthy Jan. 30 op-ed in a local newspaper, the Santa Clarita Republican and former Navy fighter jet pilot denounced the blowback on social media that branded him “a seditionist, a traitor, or even worse.” Roughly 150 miles to the north, Rep. David Valadao also had some explaining to do after voting to impeach President Trump for his part in inciting the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol. He, like Garcia, was disparaged by some constituents as a traitor. Two votes in Congress in successive weeks — one to certify Biden’s election and another to impeach the president — snared the two California Republicans into the pitched battle over the future of their party: whether the GOP will demand allegiance to Trump or break from his influence. On one side sits Garcia and the majority of House Republicans, who on Jan. 6 aligned with Trump in rejecting the will of the … [Read more...] about For two California Republicans, diverging approaches to Trump lead to the same place: Backlash
The Dhrupad revivalists
W hen the Gundecha Brothers recently performed at the beach-side Spaces, the experimental arena set up by dancer-choreographer Chandralekha, the sea proved to be a great metaphor for their music. Like the long coast line, their voice has an extraordinary range, soaring and tumbling like the waves that lash the shore. They unravel the nuances of dhrupad as if sifting through grains of sand. Their steady and introspective notes appear like the night sky above the gleaming water. The brothers, Ramakant and Umakant, have been an intrinsic part of Chandralekha’s last choreographic work ‘Sharira’ since 2001, when it was conceptualised. They were in the city for her tenth death anniversary tribute festival. “Sharira came to us when we were on an inward journey, exploring dhrupad and our own musical sensibilities. It was important to save the art from decline, open up its repertoire and reach out to the contemporary audience. We began to find a meeting point for the dhrupad’s integration … [Read more...] about The Dhrupad revivalists
Rookie on F1 Grid: DRS Chicken is Leaving a Bitter Taste Among Fans But It Stays on the Menu for Now
Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsport worldwide and has gained massive following in recent years even in countries that don’t get to roll out the red carpet for racing; India being one of those countries and this author being one of those followers. This column is my attempt to connect with other new fans of the sport and share with them my journey of exploring this fast, furious, and yes, at times, frustrating, sport. “Four DRS zones in Melbourne. You just know someone will waste them all, appealing deliveries which clearly pitched outside the line of leg stump.” That took a second reading, didn’t it? The perfect summation of my go-to- confusion when I, a rookie fan, first heard of DRS in Formula One . Four DRS zones in Melbourne. You just know someone will waste them all, appealing deliveries which clearly pitched outside the line of leg stump. — Tom Arron (@norramot) April 5, 2022 In a cricket-obsessed country, you (and I) will be forgiven for thinking it stands … [Read more...] about Rookie on F1 Grid: DRS Chicken is Leaving a Bitter Taste Among Fans But It Stays on the Menu for Now

Watch: Actress Janelle Monae Screams ‘F**k You, Supreme Court’ at BET Awards
The Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade was attacked from all sides at Sunday night’s BET Awards in Los Angeles with Disney’ Lady and the Tramp star Janelle Monae leading the way. Janelle Monae used her opportunity to wish the audience Happy Pride Day and pointed to the LGBTQ representation. “I’d like to give a special, special shoutout to Black women, to Black queer artists, to Black nonbinary artists,” she said. “These artists making art on our own terms, owning our truths and expressing ourselves freely and unapologetically in a world that tries to control and police our bodies, my body, and our decisions, my decision.” She then threw in, “Fuck you, Supreme Court,” holding up a prominent middle finger; the expletive was bleeped but her hand gesture was clearly seen. . @JanelleMonae at #BETAwards : “Fuck you, Supreme Court.” pic.twitter.com/D5V5onpIcC — Gerren Keith Gaynor (@MrGerrenalist) June 27, 2022 “I know we are celebrating us right now, … [Read more...] about Watch: Actress Janelle Monae Screams ‘F**k You, Supreme Court’ at BET Awards
Amarnath
Preparations for the annual Amarnath yatra , being held after a gap of three years, have seen a massive scaling up, with officials comparing the arrangements to that of the Kumbh Mela. Compared to 2.85 lakh pilgrims who visited in 2018, the Jammu & Kashmir administration is expecting eight lakh footfalls this year. The annual pilgrimage, conducted via the twin routes of the famous tourist destinations of Pahalgam and Sonamarg in south and central Kashmir, respectively, was cut short in 2019, ahead of the Centre’s move to abrogate the erstwhile State’s special constitutional position. The highest ever number of pilgrims 6.35 lakh pilgrims visited the cave shrine in 2011. “We are expecting a high number of devotees for the annual pilgrimage this year,” Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant-Governor of the Union Territory of J&K, who is also Chairman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), said. To meet the demand, the capacity of tents set up en route to the holy cave has been … [Read more...] about Amarnath
Playful dog halts soccer game after invading pitch for strokes—”Red card”
An international soccer match in Chile took an unexpected turn over the weekend after a pitch invading dog halted play. On Saturday, the Chile women's national soccer team played host to South American rivals Venezuela at the Estadio La Granja, Curicó. A friendly match serving as a warm-up for the Copa América Femenina, the game wasn't exactly action-packed with Chile mustering just one shot on target and Venezuela ultimately triumphing 1-0 thanks to a brilliant Mariana Speckmaier goal eight minutes from time. However, by then, the match's main highlight had already been and gone. That came in the 37th minute when, for reasons still unknown, a dog decided to run onto the pitch. Pitch invaders are nothing new in the world of soccer, but dog interlopers are a little less common. There are myriad reasons why someone may want to enter the field of play. Some do it for attention , others to protest a particular issue. Then are those who simply get carried away by the … [Read more...] about Playful dog halts soccer game after invading pitch for strokes—”Red card”
