In a period like no other, the world of golf finds itself in a battling civil war following the controversial introduction of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational Series last week. The newly born circuit has seemingly trampled on the soul of the sport, leaving the iconic traditions and integrity in its wake. The mega money on offer has lured away some of the golf’s biggest names - with the likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Ian Poulter all pledging their allegiances to Greg Norman’s new Saudi-backed golfing empire. Despite pocketing millions, the breakaway rebels could well have surrendered their biggest asset of all in PGA Tour membership. Ian Poulter is set to appeal his suspension from the PGA Tour after competing in this week’s LIV Golf Invitational Series event in St Albans. Poulter is one of many stars who has joined the controversial circuit, and is playing at Centurion Club this week. Within minutes of the inaugural event kicking off on Thursday, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan revealed that all those competing on the rebel circuit were in fact suspended. In a statement the Tour boss said: “Their participation in the Saudi Golf League/LIV Golf event is in violation of our Tournament Regulations. "The same fate [suspension] holds true for any other players who participate in future Saudi Golf League events in violation of our Regulations.” Following the sanction, Poulter revealed he would be appealing the decision, describing the ban as making ‘no sense’. The United Arab Emirates offered assistance to Russia and Ukraine in an event of a possible prisoner exchange, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported citing people familiar with the developments. The people also told RIA Novosti the proposal sent by the Emirati is being considered as both nations finalize lists of prisoners scheduled to be swapped. Russia and Ukraine have claimed that both nations have captured hundreds of prisoners of war (POWs) since Russia’s war on Ukraine on February 24. Russia’s defense minister Sergei Shoigu in the first week of June said Russian forces have captured more than 6,500 Ukrainian fighters. The Ukrainian government earlier in June said that 11 rounds of prisoner swaps have been organized since the outbreak of the war. Dozens of prisoners were swapped in those rounds.
