Do you know that female octopuses start torturing themselves from the time they reproduce and sometimes even eat themselves? Yes, that is true. The eight-limbed cephalopods have always put stress on the minds of scientists with their unique property of beating themselves after producing an egg. Recently, a group of scientists tried to find out the reason behind this bizarre habit of the mother octopuses. According to a study published in the journal Current Biology, the female octopus goes through a chemical imbalance in her body and releases a steroid hormone after mating. This hormone leads to multiple changes in their bodies, and they start torturing themselves and eating their organs. The study even talks about a study that tried to derive a similar answer in 1977. As per the old study, octopuses produce steroids and after they produce an egg, the level of it increases and the impact too. This raises the urge in them to bang their heads against the wall or just eat their parts, … [Read more...] about Female Octopuses Indulge in Self-Destruction After Mating, Study Reveals Why

Massive underwater volcano home to ‘mutant sharks’ erupts in depths of Pacific Ocean
A huge underwater volcano has erupted deep within the Pacific Ocean sending plumes of water towards the surface seen from outer space. NASA satellite images captured the magnificent explosion of the Kavachi volcano, nicknamed Sharkano. A large plume of discoloured water can be seen emerging from the underwater volcano, which lies 15 miles south of Vangunu Island. Kavachi got its name from the sea creatures that are able to live within its harsh conditions and live deep within the ocean among floating fragments of rock. Scientists became familiar with the volcano in a 2015 oceanic study. Their findings revealed how fish and sharks can survive in the hot, sulphur infused, acidic waters surrounding the volcano. Two shark species, the silky and scalloped hammerhead, were filmed swimming in the submerged crater during a field trip. The success of yellow vest protesters in France hinges on their whiteness – and this is why
The Clash’s song “White Riot” would be a fitting musical accompaniment to the on-going yellow vests insurrection against French president Emmanuel Macron’s government. During weeks of disturbances, there has barely been a brown or black face in sight. This absence is particularly notable in major cities such as Paris, where vast suburban communities habitually blamed for all social ills have shown next to no interest in joining. Everybody, from the casseurs – a French word for those who go out to destroy property – to thugs fighting the police, has been overwhelmingly fair-skinned. Typically, reactionary commentators and other bigots who like to dwell on a mythical “enemy within” are very disappointed by this. When the Arc de Triomphe itself was ransacked by a mob just before Christmas, there was an outcry, especially when a statue of Marianne – the female personification of the French Republic – had her marble face smashed in. Neo-nazis obsessed with the Third … [Read more...] about The success of yellow vest protesters in France hinges on their whiteness – and this is why
