Ayodhya Hearing Deferred Till Jan 29 as Justice UU Lalit Recuses Self After Muslim Petitioners Object

January 10, 2019 by www.news18.com

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday deferred the hearing in the Ayodhya title dispute case to January 29 after Justice UU Lalit, who was part of a Constitution bench to hear the case, recused himself on Thursday. Justice Lalit appeared for former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh in 1994, senior advocate Rajeev Dhavan — who was appearing for the Muslim petitioners — told the bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi soon after the court assembled. Though Dhavan said he was not seeking Justice Lalit's recusal, the judge opted out of the hearing in the matter. The bench, also comprising Justices SA Bobde, NV Ramana and DY Chandrachud, noted the submissions made by Dhavan. Dhavan also drew the attention of the bench to the fact that the matter was earlier fixed for hearing before a three-judge bench but the CJI took a decision to list it before a five-judge Constitution Bench. He further submitted that there was need for a judicial order to set up a five-judge … [Read more...] about Ayodhya Hearing Deferred Till Jan 29 as Justice UU Lalit Recuses Self After Muslim Petitioners Object

‘Victory Against Invaders’: Adityanath Launches Next Phase of Ram Temple Construction

June 1, 2022 by www.news18.com

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the sanctum sanctorum of the Ram temple, which he called India’s victory against invaders and a symbol of the country’s unity. The construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2020, after a landmark verdict by the Supreme Court that settled the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute. Wednesday’s “shila pujan” marked the beginning of the next phase of construction that of the main temple — now that a base for it has already been built. This part of the temple is expected to be built and open to people a few months ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Adityanath laid the stone amid the chanting of mantras in the presence of Ram temple trust officials and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya. “This is India’s victory against the invaders,” he said at the event, calling it a great moment of pride for every Indian. The Babri mosque was … [Read more...] about ‘Victory Against Invaders’: Adityanath Launches Next Phase of Ram Temple Construction

Modi govt. renews push to reach out to Muslim community

August 2, 2022 by www.thehindu.com

The Modi government has opened a new channel of communication with the Muslim community. Steering away from the days of cultivating Imam Bukhari and various Muslim Jamaats, the government is now banking on the well-entrenched Sufi orders for a meaningful dialogue with the largest minority. The move follows widespread criticism of the government for not including a single Muslim member in the Cabinet following the end of the Rajya Sabha term of Minorities Affair Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi earlier this month. National Security Adviser Ajit Doval attended a multi-religion meeting organised by the All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council (AISSC) in New Delhi wherein he cautioned that “some people try to create animosity in the name of religion that adversely affects the entire country and also has ramifications internationally”, and urged religious leaders to raise their voice against bigotry. “We have to work together and make every religious body feel part of India,” he said.
