Lew Blum, the towing guy, is apparently running for Philadelphia City Council

The king of Philly towing appears to be running for office. Lew Blum, owner of Lew Blum Towing, said on Twitter he is running for an at-large City Council seat. The next City Council election is in 2019, and there are seven at-large seats. Blum is pretty active on social media; specifically, he's active in tweeting his opposition to last year's ticket-to-tow bill that requires an illegally parked vehicle to be ticketed before a towing company can take it away. The bill was signed into law in December and Blum, for obvious reasons, is not happy about it. Assembly Bill 516 would eliminate towing conducted as a debt collection tool. The Bay Area is known for high costs including steep towing fees. The average fee to retrieve a car from a tow yard is $500. Tow-Trucking Trump Supporter Refuses Service to Disabled Bernie Fan Stranded on Highway

A North Carolina tow-truck driver is defending his decision to abandon a woman on the highway after noticing she was a Bernie Sanders supporter when he arrived to help her with her car.Cassandra McWade experienced a minor car accident outside of Asheville on Monday, and local tower Kenneth Shupe was dispatched to the scene after she called for assistance. United Road Towing to Pay $380,000 to Resolve EEOC Disability Discrimination Suit

Nationwide Towing Company  Failed to Provide Reasonable Accommodations to Class of Employees With  Disabilities, Federal Agency ChargedUnited  Road Towing, Inc., a Mokena, Ill.-based towing company, will pay $380,000 to 13  claimants and provide other relief resolving a disability discrimination  lawsuit, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced.  A federal district court judge in Chicago  entered a consent decree ending the litigation on Wednesday, June 20, 2012.  The EEOC’s  lawsuit, which was filed Sept. 30, 2009, charged that United Road Towing had  failed to provide reasonable accommodations to a class of employees with  disabilities.   The complaint highlighted United Road Towing’s  inflexible medical leave policy and practice of terminating employees with  disabilities at the end of medical leaves rather bringing them back to work  with reasonable accommodation. … [Read more...] about United Road Towing to Pay $380,000 to Resolve EEOC Disability Discrimination Suit
