Majority of crypto investors believe it will make them rich
A survey of 1,000 Americans by MagnifyMoney, a division of Charlotte, North Carolina-based LendingTree, found that 62% of crypto investors believe they'll get rich. Bitcoin has risen about 800% in the last year, but skeptics say the cryptocurrency has no real worth and increases in market value only because enough people believe it will – the "Tinkerbell effect. " Nevertheless, the survey found 50% of investors plan to hold the cryptocurrency as a bet on future price appreciation. That's t he same strategy adopted by major companies such as MicroStrategy and top Wall Street firms. Heartbroken widower pays tribute to murdered PCSO Julia James who ‘couldn’t do enough’
A heartbroken husband has paid tribute to a PCSO who “couldn’t do enough” for others as a “strange, highly sexualised” loner was found guilty of her brutal murder. Speaking outside court, widowed Paul James fought back tears as he spoke of his “amazing” wife Julia who was ambushed in the woods while walking her dog in April 2021. Jurors took just over an hour to convict Callum Wheeler, 22, of bludgeoning the 53-year-old grandmother to death with a 3kg railway jack handle. Mr James described his wife, who worked supporting victims of domestic abuse, as the “funniest person I have ever met”, adding: "She just helped everybody, she just couldn't do enough." Julia with her dog Toby ( Image: PA) Julia James was found beaten to death as she walked her Jack Russell dog Toby in the countryside near her home in Kent ( Image: PA) "She was just amazing, I was so proud of her. The work she did was just amazing, to help so many other people, women who were in … [Read more...] about Heartbroken widower pays tribute to murdered PCSO Julia James who ‘couldn’t do enough’
Endorsement: Kate Pynoos for Los Angeles City Council District 13
Los Angeles City Council Member Mitch O’Farrell has served two terms representing District 13, which includes Hollywood, Windsor Square, Echo Park, Silver Lake, Historic Filipinotown and Glassell Park — and we think that’s enough. The district needs new leadership and new energy to help solve the communities’ most pressing problems. The district’s challenges are significant — a large homeless population, a lack of affordable housing, gentrification that terrifies residents, who have watched rents and home prices soar and beloved small businesses struggle to survive. O’Farrell has done an acceptable job during his nine years on the City Council. But voters shouldn’t have to settle for just acceptable. The city needs leaders with a sense of urgency, a clear mission and a creative approach to homelessness that doesn’t involve moving people from one sidewalk to another. Two energetic challengers — Kate Pynoos and Hugo Soto-Martinez — could bring a fresh perspective that the district … [Read more...] about Endorsement: Kate Pynoos for Los Angeles City Council District 13
Boris Johnson summons Cabinet to away day as pressure mounts to help with cost of living
Boris Johnson is under mounting pressure to throw struggling families a lifeline as he summons ministers to the Midlands for a Cabinet away-day. The Prime Minister is taking his top team to the key Red Wall battleground of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs, amid growing calls for the Government to do more to ease the cost-of-living crisis . Mr Johnson said: "This Government is getting on with delivering the people's priorities and tackling the issues that matter most to the public. "This week we've set out how we’ll use new landmark legislation to grow our economy to address the cost of living, and level up opportunities for communities across the country." No10 said the PM has asked ministers “to double down on exploring innovative ways to ease pressures on household finances”. Measures could include less frequent vehicle MoTs and encouraging OAPs to register for pension credit. Michael Gove claimed the PM's words had been 'overinterpreted' ( Image: AFP via Getty Images) … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson summons Cabinet to away day as pressure mounts to help with cost of living
Self-made billionaires Mark Cuban and Charlie Ergen share jabs, startup stories at Denver Startup Week
If Dish Network co-founder Charlie Ergen could turn back time and give his much-younger self advice, he would tell himself to use sandbags to stabilize a trailer that delivered the first giant satellite dish to a Pagosa Springs customer in 1980. But had he done that, Ergen wouldn’t have one of the better stories of any entrepreneur to share with Denver Startup Week attendees Tuesday night when Ergen made a rare public appearance alongside Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and Boulder venture capitalist Brad Feld. “It was about 4 a.m. near Walsenburg, and there was a gust of wind and I did, in fact, say, ‘Oh, (poop)!’ because the dish went into the median. We only had two dishes. I lost half the assets of the company,” said Ergen, CEO of the Douglas County satellite TV service. “It was almost the first day of the company, and honest to God, that (starting up) was the hardest part of the business. I found at the time that I had partners who would live with me even though I nearly … [Read more...] about Self-made billionaires Mark Cuban and Charlie Ergen share jabs, startup stories at Denver Startup Week
