Elon Musk slams population concerns raised by Princes Harry and William

May 17, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Elon Musk has said "the environment is going to be fine" even if the human population "doubled," in comments that set him on a potential collision course with climate campaigners like Prince Harry and Prince William . The Tesla CEO dismissed suggestions that "having fewer kids is better for the environment" as "total nonsense" during an appearance at the All-In Summit. The remark sets Musk at odds with many who campaign to save the environment, including Harry and William, although he did not name them. Elon Musk Says 'the Environment Is Going to Be Fine' Musk offered no evidence to support his contentions as he said: "We're currently headed towards a population decline. And that's everywhere in the world." He added: "Some people think that having fewer kids is better for the environment. It's total nonsense. "The environment is going to be fine, the environment is going to be fine even if we doubled the size of the humans. I know a lot about environmental stuff, so … [Read more...] about Elon Musk slams population concerns raised by Princes Harry and William

South Carolina Bans Biological Males from Women’s Sports

May 17, 2022 by www.breitbart.com

South Carolina joined the chorus of states that have banned biological males from competing in women’s sports, another hit against radical transgender ideology. One of 43 acts signed by Republican Gov. Henry McMaster on Monday, the bill effectively allows students in the state to play sports on teams corresponding with the gender listed on their birth certificate. McMaster had previously signaled his willingness to sign the piece of legislation. I think the girls ought to play girls and the boys ought to play boys. That’s the way we’ve always done it,” he said earlier this month. Asked if he meant biological boys, the governor responded, “Are there any other kind?” Transgender UPenn swimmer Li Thomas (Kathryn Riley/Getty Images) Henry McMaster previously signaled his support when he criticized the NCAA for barring states that protect women’s sports from hosting championships. “I think the NCAA ought to mind their own business,” McMaster said . “If they want to … [Read more...] about South Carolina Bans Biological Males from Women’s Sports

Jamaica To Transition Into A Republic, Urge Prince William, Duchess Kate To Apologize

March 23, 2022 by www.news18.com

Jamaica will transition into a republic and begin the process to remove Queen Elizabeth II as the head of state. People familiar with the developments told news agency the Independent that the process of removing the Queen as head of state has begun. “The road to becoming a republic is not an easy one but they have long been coming under significant pressure to do it,” a Jamaican official familiar with the developments told UK-based news agency The Independent. Prince William and Duchess Kate are on a tour of the Caribbean and saw anti-colonial protests in Belize, which they are set to depart to reach Jamaica later this week. The protesters have raised the British royal family’s ties to slave trade in the Americas and the Caribbeans and urged the the future king and queen consort to issue an apology on behalf of the royal family. “Our African ancestors were forcibly removed from their home and suffered unparalleled atrocities in Africa to carry out forced labour to the benefit of … [Read more...] about Jamaica To Transition Into A Republic, Urge Prince William, Duchess Kate To Apologize

Concerns over goose poop may lead this Bay Area city to kill off hundreds of Canada geese

May 17, 2022 by www.sfchronicle.com

Activists and concerned residents in Foster City plan to protest the city’s proposal to potentially euthanize more than 300 Canada geese and goslings that some say are taking over — and contaminating — the city. The animal activists behind the protest, planned for Tuesday evening outside of City Hall, said the city’s interest in partnering with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services to control the city’s sweling goose population would be a massacre that is both “inhumane” and “temporary” at best. Between 2020 and 2021, Foster City’s goose population doubled to the largest its ever been, city officials said, with 323 reported as of last June. The overpopulation has sparked ire from residents who say the birds, and their droppings in particular, are posing a threat to health and safety. Foster City officials said they intend to reserve euthanization as a last resort. “Where there’s water, there’s water fowl,” said protester and Larkspur resident Erik Allen, who … [Read more...] about Concerns over goose poop may lead this Bay Area city to kill off hundreds of Canada geese

Venezuela frees two Americans after talks with U.S

March 9, 2022 by www.thestar.com.my

CARACAS/WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Venezuela released two jailed U.S. citizens on Tuesday in an apparent goodwill gesture toward the Biden administration following a visit to Caracas by a high-level U.S. delegation. One of the freed prisoners was Gustavo Cardenas, among six Citgo oil executives arrested in 2017 and convicted on charges the U.S. government says were fabricated. The other was a Cuban American, identified as Jorge Alberto Fernandez, detained on unrelated charges. "Tonight, two Americans who were wrongfully detained in Venezuela will be able to hug their families once more," President Joe Biden said in a statement. "We are bringing Gustavo Cardenas and Jorge Fernandez home," he said. He gave no more details about their release. The weekend visit by the U.S. delegation focused not only on the fate of detained Americans but on the possibility of easing U.S. oil sanctions on the OPEC member to fill a supply gap if Biden banned Russian oil imports in response to Moscow's … [Read more...] about Venezuela frees two Americans after talks with U.S

In Buffalo, Biden to confront the racism he’s vowed to fight

May 17, 2022 by www.denverpost.com

By CHRIS MEGERIAN WASHINGTON (AP) — When Joe Biden talks about his decision to run against President Donald Trump in 2020, the story always starts with Charlottesville. He says it was the men with torches shouting bigoted slogans that drove him to join what he calls the “battle for the soul of America.” Now Biden is facing the latest deadly manifestation of hatred after a white supremacist targeted Black people with an assault rifle at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, and left 10 people dead, the most lethal racist attack since he took office. The president and first lady Jill Biden are to visit the city on Tuesday, where their first stop will be a makeshift memorial outside the supermarket. They’re also expected to meet privately with families of the victims, first responders and local officials before the president delivers public remarks. In a speech at a nearby community center, Biden plans to call for stricter gun laws and urge Americans to reject racism and embrace … [Read more...] about In Buffalo, Biden to confront the racism he’s vowed to fight

GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik: ‘We Need … Trump’s Border Policies’

May 17, 2022 by www.breitbart.com

Republican legislators in the House agree that a GOP majority in 2023 will push to restore President Donald Trump’s border policies, GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik told Breitbart News. “Republicans agree we need to return to President Trump’s effective border security policies — which was the most secure border, certainly in my lifetime, and it was working,” Rep. Elise Stefanik, who chairs the conference committee which represents all GOP members in the House, told Sirius XM’s Breitbart News Daily host Alex Marlow. That chair position makes her a leading spokeswoman for the party’s 2022 campaign promises  — and a leader responsible for implementing those promises in 2023. Marlow asked her about the GOP’s response to a consensus border-fix plan recently drafted by a mix of diverse immigration reform groups. The consensus plan describes the steps needed to block illegal migration over the border, and was formally presented on May 11 to 150 GOP legislators, including … [Read more...] about GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik: ‘We Need … Trump’s Border Policies’

Jamie Oliver tells PM: ‘You’ve got 36 hours or we’re coming with Eton mess’

May 17, 2022 by news.sky.com

Jamie Oliver has threatened to stage an "Eton Mess" protest over the government's U-turn on its anti-obesity strategy. The celebrity chef has told the Prime Minister that he has "36 hours" to correct his mistake and called on the public to gather outside Downing Street on Friday at 12.30pm with bowls of dessert "invented in that very privileged place" where Boris Johnson went to school. The government has decided to delay a ban on two-for-one deals on unhealthy food , a move that has come under fire from campaigners including Oliver, who has called it a "wasted opportunity" that erodes the UK's efforts to tackle obesity. He added that a ban on junk food adverts on TV before the watershed was key to protecting children. The ban has been put on hold for a year. Advertisement "I would love to give you the opportunity if possible to realise that it's OK to make a mistake," he said in a video posted on Instagram. "What I'd like to say to you is … [Read more...] about Jamie Oliver tells PM: ‘You’ve got 36 hours or we’re coming with Eton mess’

Judging Judge Barrett and the separation of church and state | Opinion

September 30, 2020 by www.newsweek.com

While Judge Amy Barrett awaits Senate confirmation as a Justice of the Supreme Court, there has been a drumbeat of editorials attacking her as a threat to the separation of church and state. This is not, of course, because of anything she has said. As a fact-check piece in USA Today noted, the judge has "never publicly said that she opposes the separation of church and state." And in writing about Catholic judges, she has said that "judges cannot—nor should they try to—align our legal system with the Church's moral teaching whenever the two diverge." Nonetheless, the ugly beat goes on—raising anxieties about the separation of church and state merely because Barrett is a devout Catholic. Of course, those who bang on this drum are usually quite sincere. They really believe that the "separation of church and state" is the Constitution's principle of religious liberty. But it is not. Does the phrase bear even remote resemblance to the First Amendment's guarantee that "Congress shall … [Read more...] about Judging Judge Barrett and the separation of church and state | Opinion

Paul-Booker fall matchup set in Kentucky Senate race

May 17, 2022 by www.sfchronicle.com

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Republican U.S. Sen. Rand Paul won his party’s nomination Tuesday to seek a third term, setting up a campaign of contrasting agendas that pits his vision for limited government against Democratic challenger Charles Booker’s support for sweeping health care and anti-poverty programs. The libertarian-leaning Paul coasted to victory over five little-known Republican challengers in his pursuit of another term. Booker, a Black former state lawmaker, defeated three primary opponents to become the latest nominee to try to break Kentucky Democrats’ long losing streak in U.S. Senate races. The Bluegrass State hasn’t elected a Democrat to the Senate since Wendell Ford in 1992. Paul, who ran unsuccessfully for president in 2016, has gained a national voice in promoting a philosophy of limited government and restraint in U.S. foreign policy. He’s known for going his own way at times in the Senate. Last week, Paul defied leaders of both parties and single-handedly … [Read more...] about Paul-Booker fall matchup set in Kentucky Senate race
