Viet Nam News by Paul Kennedy May 14 1988 started out as a really good day. The sun was shining, I was 15-years-old and on my way to Wembley Stadium to watch Liverpool win the FA Cup. The result was a no brainer. Liverpool, the crème de la crème of English football versus Wimbledon. The Crazy Gang. Liverpool was a team packed with talent. Barnes, Beardsley, Houghton and Hansen. Wimbledon was a team packed with thugs, Vinnie Jones, Andy Thorn, Dennis Wise and some other players no one had ever heard of. Liverpool would win. They had to win, they were the better team. They could not possible lose. They lost. By one goal to nil. My dream day turned into a nightmare. The train journey back north was solemn to say the least. But you know what? Thirty plus years later, this final will still be remembered as one of the greatest in FA Cup history. Not because of the game itself, that was awful, but because it reminded the world of the beauty of the FA Cup. Fast forward to … [Read more...] about Klopp flops in the FA Cup but does it really matter?

NFL Hall of Famer Brett Favre is apologizing after saying he was duped into making an anti-Semitic video by a hate group posing as a veteran's organization. Favre, who made millions playing for the Green Bay Packers, New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings over a storied career, was paid $500 to make the recording riddled with conspiracy theories and coded hate speech and for the Cameo service. Cameo pays celebrities and athletes to record short, personalized video messages. The hate group the Handsome Truth and the Goyim Defense League, posing as a veteran's group, paid Favre to read a statement that included several veiled anti-Semitic remarks. "Brett Favre here with a shout-out to the Handsome Truth and the GDL boys,” he says in the video, according to BuzzFeed News. Seemingly reading from a prepared script, Favre stares into a camera reads the statement which inlcudes "You guys are patriots in my eyes. So keep waking them up and don’t let the small get you down. … [Read more...] about Brett Favre Apologizes After Being Duped Into Making Anti-Semitic Video
Kieran Higgs was a thorn in the side of Royston all evening. Picture: Shirley D Whitlow Shirley D Whitlow Lowestoft Town striker Kieran Higgs symbolises the direction the Trawlerboys have to take. A young player with pedigree, desperately in need of minutes to make the transition from academy to senior football and, most importantly after the financial meltdown last season, free.In Higgs they might have just unearthed a diamond capable of filling the sizeable boots Jake Reed left behind last season. He doesn’t offer the same goal threat as Reed, yet, but there is talent there that the management team of Jamie Godbold and Andy Reynolds can work with.Higgs left Norwich City in the summer after an injury ravaged time with the Canaries that effectively put paid to getting a pro deal at Carrow Road.Higgs’ rehabilitation is now well under way at the Amber Dew Events Stadium. The 19-year-old will undoubtedly harbour ambitions about getting into the Football League but for the … [Read more...] about Have the Trawlerboys filled the void left by Jake Reed?
