Andy Murray has pulled out of this month’s French Open to prioritise Wimbledon after recently returning from injury. Murray returned to the ATP Tour at the recent Madrid Open, after being absent since the Miami Open at the end of March. Murray had previously revealed that he would skip the whole of the clay season, but had a change in heart when entering this month’s tournament in the Spanish capital. The Brit put in a string of strong performances to defeat both Dominic Thiem and Denis Shapovalov. His opening two victories set up a mouthwatering tie against World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the round of 16, with two of the sport’s biggest names set to meet for the first time in 2017. Murray was then forced to pull out of the headline clash due to an illness, handing Djokovic the walkover. And his outing in Spain seems to be his last of the season on clay, after announcing his decision to pull out of Roland Garros. Ahead of Wimbledon, Murray has discussed the possibility of … [Read more...] about Andy Murray pulls out of French Open as Brit prioritises Wimbledon after injury return

Alison Parker had a close relationship with her mom. On Mother's Day in 2015, she took both of her parents wine-tasting and hiking around the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. And every Monday, she met her mom after her morning shift ended at the local news station to share lunch and do some shopping. "Those are the things I miss," Barbara Parker tells Newsweek . The world watched in horror when Alison, a 24-year-old reporter, was fatally shot on live TV on August 26, 2015, along with her colleague Adam Ward, a 27-year-old photojournalist, both with WDBJ7. The two were conducting a live interview at Bridgewater Plaza in Moneta, Virginia, when a gunman approached and killed them. 8 times Tories criticised for being ‘out of touch’ over cost of living crisis
The Tories are embroiled in a fresh cost of living row after a minister suggested some Brits could get a better paid job or work more hours to cope with spiralling bills. Home Office Minister Rachel Maclean said the Government's long term plan was to help people "protect" themselves from cost of living pressures. Ms Maclean said she was not "suggesting for one moment" that these options would work for everyone, adding: "It may be right for some people.” She later claimed her comments had been "misinterpreted" as she was discussing the long term plan not the short term help to ease the cost of living crisis. But Labour shadow cabinet minister Ian Murray said the "ludicrous" advice “sounds like the Norman Tebbit 'get on your bike' instructions from the 1980s.” The row comes after a string of tin-eared comments from top Tories as families struggle with the escalating cost of living crisis. Speaking in the Commons' debate on the Queen's Speech, the Prime Minister said he and the Chancellor would be "saying more" about households' shrinking budgets "in the days to come". But he idea fresh support for struggling Brits was imminent was slapped down by sources close to the Chancellor, who were quick to point out Mr Sunak was "always clear" that a decision would not be made before the autumn budget. The row suggests divisions between the Prime Minister and Mr Sunak, who is frequently tipped as a future Tory leader. Mr Johnson said Government will have "the fiscal firepower to help families up and down the country" in the years ahead, before adding on the cost of living crisis: "We will continue to use all our ingenuity and compassion for as long as it takes.
