Members of the Andhra Pradesh High Court Committee on Juvenile Justice including Justice Kongara Vijayalakshmi, Justice G. Ramakrishna Prasad and Justice V. Sujatha released posters on child abuse awareness as part of a campaign titled ‘STOP Child Sexual Abuse’ at the High Court on Tuesday. The committee also approved an eight-minute video that educates children on topics like ‘Good Touch, Bad Touch’ and helpline numbers such as 1098, 100 and 101. The posters and the awareness video were made by the NTR district administration. Commissioner of Police Kanthi Rana Tata and officials of the Women Development and Child Welfare Department were present. Andhra Pradesh: 3,239 litre ID liquor, 2,796 kg ganja seized in a week
The officials of the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) registered 583 cases, including 25 against the ganja smugglers in Andhra Pradesh, in the last week and arrested 746 people including those involved in arrack and ganja cases. The SEB personnel also seized 3,239 litres of illicitly distilled (ID) liquor, destroyed 23,760 litres of fermented jaggery wash and 2,172 litres of non-duty paid liquor (NDPL) during the period. During the drive, the police seized 2,796 kg ganja and arrested 79 people on charges of peddling. As many as 395 ID liquor manufacturers and ganja smugglers were bound over, said SEB Commissioner Ravi Shankar Ayyanar. Andhra Pradesh: TDP writes to NHRC over suspicious death of man in Nellore village
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) wrote to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) urging it to direct the Government of Andhra Pradesh to provide financial compensation to the family of a man who was found dead under suspicious circumstances on the outskirts of Kandamuru village in Nellore district on June 19. TDP Polit Bureau member Varla Ramaiah in his letter, wrote that the Podalakuru police had picked up a man named Narayana on charges of stealing electric wires from a sugar factory. The police allegedly assaulted Narayana while he was in their custody, Mr. Ramaiah alleged. After being released from custody, Narayana went missing from home and was found hanging from a tree on June 19. His family members alleged that he had ended his life unable to bear the humiliation at the hands of the police. 281 child labourers rescued in Andhra Pradesh in June: BBA
The Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) saved 281 children in Andhra Pradesh in one month from the work premises where they were allegedly doing forced labour. BBA State coordinator B. Chandra Sekhar Rao at a press conference on Saturday said these children (below 18 years) were rescued from various locations in Andhra Pradesh in June. The BBA conducted raids at 216 different places across the country and rescued 1,623 children during that time. In Andhra Pradesh, the district task force teams consisting of officials from labour, child and women welfare, education, factories, police departments, the railways, and Childline-1098 conducted 59 raids during the 30-day period. The stage is set for the conduct of the byelection to the Atmakur Assembly seat in Nellore district on June 23. Though 14 candidates are in the fray, the contest is likely to be mainly between YSRCP candidate Mekapati Vikram Reddy and BJP contestant G. Bharat Kumar Yadav. She said that they had identified around 60 accident-prone locations by conducting joint inspections along with the Police Department in various towns and mandals of the district.
