Oil hits November 2018 highs amid OPEC supply cuts, U.S. sanctions

· April 7, 2019 ·

By Henning Gloystein SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Oil prices rose to five-month highs on Monday, driven up by OPEC's ongoing supply cuts, U.S. sanctions against Iran and Venezuela and healthy U.S. jobs data. International benchmark Brent futures were at $70.69 per barrel at 0047 GMT on Monday, up 35 cents, or 0.5 percent from their last close. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude were up 35 cents, or 0.6 percent, at $63.43 per barrel. Brent and WTI both hit their highest levels since November last year at $70.76 and $63.48 per barrel, respectively, early on Monday. "Brent prices increased more than 30 percent year-to-date as OPEC+ continued to cut supply for 4 months in a row and optimism over U.S.-China trade talks helped to buoy the demand outlook," U.S. bank J.P.Morgan said in a note released over the weekend. Traders said strong U.S. jobs data from Friday also helped lift Asian markets early on Monday. Energy consultancy FGE said OPEC-led supply cuts meant "excess inventories are … [Read more...] about Oil hits November 2018 highs amid OPEC supply cuts, U.S. sanctions

· November 25, 2015 ·

EUGeneral Data Protection Regulation Discussion BroadcastThe Assistant European Data Protection Supervisor and the Rapporteur for the Data Protection Regulation have discussed the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). They noted that the timeline that had been set for the end of 2015 was nearing, but there was optimism that there could be political agreement in this time. There are still some core compromises needed: for example, in relation to the requirement for a mandatory data protection officer, the question of consent and other grounds for processing data (in particular legitimate interests for processing), but the position is moving toward a consensus. All parties foresee that the implementation period will be two years once the regulation is finalised.EU Agency for Fundamental Rights Report on SurveillanceThe EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) has published its report focussing on the legal framework governing surveillance by intelligence powers. Amazon Reconsiders New York City Headquarters: Report

· February 8, 2019 ·

Amazon is reconsidering its plan to open a new headquarter in New York City following opposition from local politicians, The Washington Post reported. The company has not leased or purchased office space for the project, making it easy to withdraw its commitment, the publication said. Mayor Bill de Blasio's press secretary said in a statement: "The Mayor fully expects Amazon to deliver on its promise to New Yorkers." Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Amazon said: “We’re focused on engaging with our new neighbors - small business owners, educators, and community leaders. Whether it’s building a pipeline of local jobs through workforce training or funding computer science classes for thousands of New York City students, we are working hard to demonstrate what kind of neighbor we will be.”  State Sen. Michael Gianaris, who has the power to veto some aspects of the Amazon deal, told NBC 4 New York that the deal presented is a bad one, adding that he is … [Read more...] about Amazon Reconsiders New York City Headquarters: Report
