May 11, 2022 by www.independent.co.uk

Hilary Duff has spoken candidly about body positivity , detailing how “proud” she’s been of her body over the years. The 34-year-old actor discussed body image in Hollywood during a recent interview with Women’s Health , where she posed nude for the publication’s “Body Issue”. As a woman in the acting industry, Duff noted that she sometimes felt pressured to look a certain way. “Because of my career path, I can’t help but be like, ‘I am on camera and actresses are skinny,’” she said. She also acknowledged that at the age of 17, she struggled with a year long eating disorder, which was “horrifying”. However, the Lizzie McGuire star expressed that she’s now in “a place” where she appreciates how her body has changed and everything it has given her, including the opportunity to birth her children. Duff shares her 10-year-old son, Luca, with her ex-husband Mike Comrie, and shares two daughters, Banks, three, and Mae, one, with her current husband Matthew … [Read more...] about Hilary Duff poses nude on the cover of Women’s Health magazine: ‘I’m proud of my body’

Young children can easily see disturbing content on YouTube despite age restrictions

March 15, 2019 by www.independent.co.uk

The YouTube video starts with a popular British children's cartoon character, Peppa Pig , introducing herself and her family, but there are signs of trouble almost immediately. During the ninth second, Peppa's mother opens her mouth and shouts, "Smoke weed!" The video - a doctored version of a real Peppa episode - deteriorates from there. Over five minutes, there are explosions and racial and homophobic slurs, culminating with Peppa and her parents in dark sunglasses smoking marijuana as rapper Snoop Dogg dances nearby. Since it was uploaded in 2015, the altered video, which has no age restrictions, has been viewed more than 1.5 million times. After years of vowing to police inappropriate content, YouTube continues to deliver violent imagery, drug references, sexually-suggestive sequences and foul, racially-charged language in clips that reach children at a troubling pace, say researchers, parents and consumer groups. YouTube's recommendation algorithm, they say, … [Read more...] about Young children can easily see disturbing content on YouTube despite age restrictions

Donald Trump’s enemies flock to Brian Kemp in bid to thwart MAGA surge

May 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Former President George W. Bush is reported to be attending a fundraiser in support of Georgia governor Brian Kemp in another example of recent and longtime enemies of Donald Trump publicly rallying against the MAGA president's endorsed candidate, David Perdue . Bush is scheduled to appear at a Texas fundraiser on Monday for Kemp at the home of real estate developer Harlan Crow, according to Politico. It was previously confirmed that former Vice President Mike Pence , whose relationship with Trump fell apart after the 2021 U.S. Capitol riot, would be supporting Kemp as the Republican candidate during a rally held one day before the May 24 primary. Charles Bullock, a professor of political science at the University of Georgia, said that with Kemp being "target number one" for Trump, Republicans who do not support the former president and his vision have seen that "the biggest blow they could deliver to begin freeing the GOP of Trumpism" would be to beat his candidate … [Read more...] about Donald Trump’s enemies flock to Brian Kemp in bid to thwart MAGA surge

May 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Amber Heard took the witness stand again on Monday in her defense testimony and stated that the feces in her and ex-husband Johnny Depp 's bed was their dogs, not hers. In the high-profile defamation trial between the two actors, Depp claimed that Heard had defecated in their bed, and a video of his testimony went viral in late April . During her defense testimony on Monday, Heard stated that it was actually Depp's Yorkshire Terrier named Boo that had left feces on the bed. Heard stated that in 2016, while she and her friend were preparing to leave for the Coachella music festival, they left the dogs on the bed. When asked if she had committed any kind of "prank," Heard replied, "Absolutely not." "First of all, I don't think that's funny. I don't know what grown woman does find that funny," she added. Mom switching baby formula escalates baby’s health issues

May 16, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Speaking about the strain put on them by the continuing baby formula shortage, one family said that switching to a new type of formula has caused their daughter health problems. Zaskiia Colon of El Cajon, California, spoke to CBS 8 about the problems she has faced trying to feed her 6-week-old daughter amid the formula shortage. She said that she, like many parents, has been driving around for hours, scouring the greater San Diego area for formula and often finding bare shelves. She also explained that she will not be able to switch her daughter, whose name she withheld for privacy reasons, to baby food until she is at least 4 months old. "I was just getting formula right now [prior to the interview]," Colon told CBS 8. "What am I supposed to do, I'm not producing enough milk." The situation got so severe for Colon that she attempted to give her daughter a different variety of baby formula than she was used to, swapping in Enfamil Gentlease Infant Formula Powder. This … [Read more...] about Mom switching baby formula escalates baby’s health issues

A Democratic congressional candidate told his GOP opponent to “f*** off” during a debate held in a synagogue

October 23, 2018 by www.newsweek.com

Democratic congressional candidate Scott Wallace of Pennsylvania cursed at his opponent Brian Fitzpatrick during a debate in a synagogue, telling the Republican representative to "f*** off." "Ironically, there was a later question about the need for civility in politics," Fitzpatrick told WBCB News. "Well, a good start is to not use vulgarities in the sanctuary of a synagogue in the middle of a congressional debate." The expletives came during a debate between the two candidates on Sunday night at the Congregation Tifereth Israel in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. The two candidates are running for the House in the state's first congressional district, a largely Jewish community. According to WBCB, Wallace's outburst "silenced" the audience. Fitzpatrick, who was first elected in 2016, said that he was "stunned" by Wallace's comment. The Democrat dropped the expletive when being questioned about his campaign's attack ad against Fitzpatrick's position on health care. The ad states that … [Read more...] about A Democratic congressional candidate told his GOP opponent to “f*** off” during a debate held in a synagogue

Hearing threat to Roe vs. Wade, I thought of my gay marriage — and Jim Obergefell’s fight

May 16, 2022 by www.latimes.com

I’ve thought about Jim Obergefell often since we first spoke nine years ago, after his historic marriage to his husband on an airport tarmac outside Baltimore. He’s come to mind mostly during big moments in my own life as a gay man in America. I thought of Jim and his late husband, John Arthur, when I first considered proposing to my husband, Aaron, and the promises — in sickness and in health, till death do us part — that I’d be making. I thought of Jim and John again when Aaron and I exchanged vows in San Francisco City Hall in 2018, with our families around us and the bust of Harvey Milk nearby . We chose City Hall for its beauty and ease, but could have been anywhere in the country — a right Jim and John won us by overcoming a mountain of obstacles just to reach that tarmac. Advertisement I thought of Jim again last week, around the time I was emailing our lawyers about the next set of paperwork to file in our pursuit of U.S. citizenship for Aaron, who is … [Read more...] about Hearing threat to Roe vs. Wade, I thought of my gay marriage — and Jim Obergefell’s fight

‘Vikram’ audio launch: Suriya plays a cameo, Kamal Haasan and Pa Ranjith to collaborate

May 16, 2022 by www.thehindu.com

A young Lokesh Kanagaraj used to often hear stories of how Kamal Haasan would go to the terrace of his Alwarpet residence to get fresh air, and would sometimes wave at fans waiting below. A then aspiring director and fanboy, Lokesh would roam around Kamal’s house with the harboured hope that the star would one day wave at him. All that Lokesh hoped for was a wave from Kamal. But he landed the rare opportunity to say ‘action and cut’ to his “cinema aandavar ”. And that too in his fourth film, Vikram , which marks Kamal’s 232 film. Speaking at the recent audio and trailer launch of Vikram , Lokesh recalled his journey thus far which now seems to have come a full circle. “I am a believer. I have told this many times, I learnt all aspects of filmmaking by watching Kamal sir’s films. I’ve been blessed to have this opportunity to work with him. I believe in commitment towards work. Before Vikram , there was a nine-year journey that has led to where I am today. From day one, there … [Read more...] about ‘Vikram’ audio launch: Suriya plays a cameo, Kamal Haasan and Pa Ranjith to collaborate

Explained | The Gyanvapi Mosque-Kashi Vishwanath dispute and the current case

May 16, 2022 by www.thehindu.com

The story so far: On May 16, a local court in Varanasi directed the district administration to seal the spot in the Gyanvapi Masjid complex where a “shivling” was reportedly found during a court-mandated videography survey. The three-day survey, conducted under tight security, had concluded in the morning. The Supreme Court on May 13 had refused to grant an interim stay on the videography survey of the Gyanvapi mosque-Kashi Vishwanath temple complex in Varanasi, ordered by the local court. Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana, however, had said on May 13 that the apex court would examine the documents in a plea requesting a halt to the videography, and later directed that the matter be listed before a Bench headed by Justice D.V. Chandrachud. This developments comes after a Varanasi court ordered the survey commissioner to resume videography inside the Gyanvapi mosque, directing that the inspection of the complex be completed by Tuesday. The dispute stems from a case filed by … [Read more...] about Explained | The Gyanvapi Mosque-Kashi Vishwanath dispute and the current case
