Huge leads. Lengthy scoring droughts. Blowouts. The Eastern Conference finals between the Heat and Celtics are as close as can be—heading back to Miami all tied up at two wins apiece. But the individual games have been anything but. Boston scored 18 of the first 19 points on Monday night on the way to a 102-82 victory in Game 4 of the best-of-seven series. The Celtics led by as many as 32 in the third quarter—a big gap, even for a series that has been full of them. View this post on Instagram A post shared by NBA (@nba) “Sometimes when you have two really competitive teams, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to be a one-point game,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “It means that it can be flammable, either way. Both teams are ignitable." Blowout wins for both teams And they seem to be taking turns catching fire: The team that has gotten blown out has won the next game each time. “Whatever they have … [Read more...] about NBA Conference Finals | One-sided wins for Boston Celtics, Miami Heat as series tied at 2-2

A consortium led by US business tycoon Todd Boehly has agreed a £4.25billion deal to buy Chelsea from Roman Abramovich. The Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner and his partners saw off a host of rivals to broker the takeover for the highest price ever paid for a sports club. Former British Airways chairman Sir Martin Broughton and Boston Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca had also been vying to buy the Blues. Boehly, the chief executive of Eldridge Industries, is expected to attend Chelsea's Premier League clash with Wolves at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Countries where monkeypox confirmed as worldwide cases near 100 after outbreaks
Health authorities across the globe are on high alert as cases of monkeypox are on the rise across at least a dozen countries . This is the first time there has been an international spread on such a large scale. The virus first originated in 1970 in the modern-day Democratic Republic of the Congo and is endemic in parts of Africa. As of May 21, there were nearly 100 confirmed cases across the world with the highest recorded by any country in the UK , at 56. Denmark yesterday became the latest country to confirm cases. There have been no deaths so far and while the spread is alarming as it is new and unknown, health officials have said not to worry. Rare Cases of COVID Returning Prompt Questions About Pfizer Pill
May 11, 2022 08:26 As more doctors prescribe Pfizer's powerful COVID-19 pill, new questions are emerging about its performance, including why a small number of patients appear to relapse after taking the drug. Paxlovid has become the go-to option against COVID-19 because of its at-home convenience and impressive results in heading off severe disease. The U.S. government has spent more than $10 billion to purchase enough pills to treat 20 million people. But experts say there is still much to be learned about the drug, which was authorized in December for adults at high risk of severe COVID-19 based on a study in which 1,000 adults received the medication. ◆ Why Do Some Patients Seem to Relapse? Doctors have started reporting rare cases of patients whose symptoms return several days after completing Paxlovid's five-day regimen of pills. That has prompted questions about whether those patients are still contagious and should receive a second course of Paxlovid. Last … [Read more...] about Rare Cases of COVID Returning Prompt Questions About Pfizer Pill
I dug for ‘The Secret’ buried treasure in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park and it broke my heart
Just a few feet from the morning traffic on Fulton Drive, I drove a sharp metal probing rod 3 feet into the soil of Golden Gate Park ... and hit something. I reached for my shovel and excavated the flower bed in search of an ornate plexiglass box that was rumored to be buried in the park 40 years ago. Dirt accumulated under my fingernails as I dug deeper and deeper, hoping this would be the most exciting day of my life. My hunt began over a year ago when a stranger from Oklahoma named Larry Gladd sent me an email with the subject line “Buried Treasure.” To the dismay of SFGATE’s IT department, I opened it, and Gladd shared his theory about a book called “The Secret.” Published in 1982 by Byron Preiss and illustrated by John Jude Palencar, “The Secret” looks like the type of fantasy novel you might find on the bookshelf of a 13-year-old boy who is not particularly popular. The book features tarot-influenced illustrations and cryptic poems that offer clues to the whereabouts of 12 … [Read more...] about I dug for ‘The Secret’ buried treasure in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park and it broke my heart
Bratton: ‘An Assault Weapons Ban Isn’t Going to Help’ – Red Flag Laws, ‘Background Screening’ Can and Have Support
On Tuesday’s broadcast of “CNN Tonight,” Homeland Security Advisory Council Co-Chair and former Police Commissioner of Boston, Los Angeles, and New York Bill Bratton argued that “Guns are here to stay.” And “An assault weapons ban isn’t going to help us.” Bratton also stated that red flag laws and “background screening” are areas where agreement can be reached and that can help. Bratton stated, “[G]oing forward, we need to try to find things that do work that can minimize this…in Florida, the red flag law that they passed down there, there evidently have been 5,000 uses of that law in just recent years. That’s 5,000 times that that law has been used to prevent something like we just witnessed today. The good news is, there seems to be, by and large, bipartisan support for red flag laws around the country. We don’t have too much bipartisan support for anything in this country anymore. So, let’s focus on things that apparently are working and see if we can expand that.” He … [Read more...] about Bratton: ‘An Assault Weapons Ban Isn’t Going to Help’ – Red Flag Laws, ‘Background Screening’ Can and Have Support
NEWS18 EXPLAINS: How Concerned Should We Be About Monkeypox?
Global health officials have sounded the alarm over rising cases in Europe and elsewhere of monkeypox, a type of viral infection more common to west and central Africa. As of Saturday, 92 confirmed cases and 28 suspected cases of monkeypox have been reported from 12 member states that are not endemic for the virus, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The following is what is known about the current outbreak and relative risk of monkeypox: HOW DANGEROUS IS IT? The risk to the general public is low at this time, a U.S. public health official told reporters at a briefing on Friday. Julianne Moore wins best actress at Cannes for ‘Maps to the Stars’
Cannes: Julianne Moore won the best actress prize at the 67th Cannes Film Festival Saturday for her role as a shallow starlet in Canadian director David Cronenberg's biting Hollywood satire 'Maps to the Stars'. In the film, the 53-year-old redhead plays an ageing actress feeling increasingly sidelined by an industry obsessed with youth. When the young son of a rival for new film role is killed in a freak drowning accident, Moore does a dance of joy that remained one of the enduring shocks of this year's festival. "Vive Los Angeles, Vive David Cronenberg, vive Julie Moore et vive la France," the film's screenwriter, Bruce Wagner, said as he picked up the trophy for Moore, who was not in Cannes. Moore has played everything from a porn star to an FBI agent over a two-decade big screen career that has already brought four Oscar nominations, two Golden Globes and a Primetime Emmy to her name. Her best-known films include 1998's "The Big Lebowski," "Crazy Stupid Love" (2011) as … [Read more...] about Julianne Moore wins best actress at Cannes for ‘Maps to the Stars’
