A FORMER nurse who took her war hero dad to Dignitas suicide clinic has escaped prosecution for fulfilling her father's last wishes. Sandra Holmes, along with her son Scott, removed 93-year-old John Lenton from his care home in North Wales last year and took him to the euthanasia clinic in Switzerland. The 66-year-old former nursery nurse, from Llanrwst, said her dad asked her to take him around six months before his death in October 2017 - and faced an agonising wait to see if she would face criminal charges. She said: “The whole family is greatly relieved that we are finally able to draw a line under this now, and although we never expected to be prosecuted, it’s nice to know for definite that we won’t be. “The police have been very supportive of us and we’ve also had massive support on social media and in the community ever since sharing dad’s story. “In fact, perfect strangers have even come up to me in the street saying they admire what we … [Read more...] about Daughter who took SAS hero dad, 93, to Dignitas suicide clinic walks free as criminal probe dropped

The 66-year-old former nursery nurse from Llanrwst has now broken her silence to reveal she backs the right to die choice. She told Daily Post: "This is my dad's story, not mine. "And I am telling it now as we strongly believe in everyone's individual choice to make their own decisions at the end of their life." Her dad John had lived a full and active life serving with the South Wales Borderers before he later volunteered to join the Parachute Regiment. While serving as a Colour Sergeant, the veteran fought in Italy, Algeria, Tunisia, France, Greece, Palestine and Egypt and was also a forerunner to the SAS.
