A 46-year-old San Diego woman was among the six people killed Monday when two small sightseeing planes carrying cruise ship passengers crashed in Alaska, authorities said. Louis J. Botha and four other Americans were killed, along with a Canadian woman and Australian man, according to a statement by Alaska State Troopers. Coast Guard Lt. Brian Dykens said the collision happened Monday afternoon near Ketchikan, a popular destination for cruise ships in Alaska. Ten other people, all Americans, were injured in the crash. At least three of the injured were released from hospitals Tuesday, officials said. Public records showed Botha was born in South Africa and as of 2017 lived in the northern part of San Diego near 4S Ranch, in a neighborhood west of Rancho Bernardo. The bodies of two more people have been found after small sightseeing planes crashed in Alaska, the Coast Guard says. Coast Guard Lt. Brian Dykens said six people have died in the collision Monday afternoon near Ketchikan, a popular destination for cruise ships in Alaska. Dykens said his agency and the Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad found the two bodies near the crash site of the smaller plane involved in the collision, a single-engine de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver. The six victims were identified late Tuesday as Randy Sullivan, the 46-year-old pilot, 56-year-old Simon Bodie, 62-year-old Cassandra Webb, 39-year-old Ryan Wilk, 46-year-old Louis Botha and 37-year-old Elsa Wilk. The missing passengers were from Canada and Australia, Princess Cruises said. The Royal Princess, which can carry up to 3,600 people, was among four city-sized cruise ships in the tiny coastal community on Monday. And starting Friday, because of the partial government shutdown, he will stop getting a paycheck. Anpetu Luta Hoksila, 35, doesn’t know how he’s going to pay his bills. He plans to lean on his credit card, but that won’t last long. He called his Toyota dealership to say he couldn’t make his car payment, and it agreed to let him tack the payment onto the end of his loan term.
