The Supreme Court Wednesday asked the Centre to take a “pro-active role” in the All India Football Federation (AIFF) matter for facilitating the holding of the Under-17 Women’s World Cup in India and the lifting of the suspension of the country’s apex football body by FIFA. The top court deferred till the August 22 hearing on the AIFF matter after the Centre said it is in discussion with the International Football Federation (FIFA) over the holding of the U-17 Women’s world cup in India. A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, AS Bopanna, and JB Paridwala said, “We would impress upon the Union of India to take a pro-active role in the matter so that the holding of the Under-17 World Cup and the lifting of the suspension of AIFF, in order to achieve that object, is duly facilitated”. ‘Stray’ review: A must-play game for cat lovers
Usually, when reviewing games, I have my daughter as an audience. For Stray, however, my entire family took an active role in helping its furry protagonist solve mysteries. Most of all, my three-month old kitten, Qwerty, took a passionate interest in it. Qwerty constantly conversed with the unnamed in-game cat — a conversation I happily took part in by pressing the dedicated “meow” button. For those of us who have lost a cat at some point, the game hits home a bit. Because Stray has an unnamed ginger cat who is trying to find its way home. Separated from its family, we have to guide it through an unfamiliar cyberpunk city, aided by a friendly drone, B-12. To find a way out of this lost world, the cat has to solve a series of mysteries and puzzles. Stray is made by a small group of cat parents in BlueTwelve Studio. There are many things in the game to suggest it could have only been made by people who understand cats. You could, for instance, sense this in the way the cats in … [Read more...] about ‘Stray’ review: A must-play game for cat lovers
U.S. midterms bring few changes from social media companies
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Social media companies are offering few specifics as they share their plans for safeguarding the U.S. midterm elections. Platforms like Facebook and Twitter are generally staying the course from the 2020 voting season, which was marred by conspiracies and culminated in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Video app TikTok, which has soared in popularity since the last election cycle while also cementing its place as a problem spot for misinformation, announced Wednesday it is launching an election center that will help people find voting locations and candidate information. The center will show up on videos about U.S. elections and in the feeds of users who search election-related hashtags. TikTok is also partnering with voting advocacy groups to provide specialized voting information for college students, people who are deaf, military members living overseas and those with past criminal convictions. TikTok, like other platforms, would not … [Read more...] about U.S. midterms bring few changes from social media companies

Companies Should Lean Into the Great Rethink
The Great Rethink is a term being used to convey an alternate viewpoint to the Great Resignation. This alternative places an emphasis on the fact that many employees are taking a new look at their relationship with work. People are reexamining how their current job impacts both their career and their personal lives. This fresh assessment is guiding them to either stay where they are or look for a new job that better aligns with their priorities. With job openings at a record high, employers must also reevaluate their own relationships with workers if they want to attract and retain the talent they need. Three lessons we learned during the shift to remote work can help companies better navigate the Great Rethink. 1. Flexibility is key. During the shutdowns, the shift to remote work forced managers to change how they lead their teams and how work is done. It may have been rough at the beginning, but management styles adapted and technology stepped up to fill the gaps across the … [Read more...] about Companies Should Lean Into the Great Rethink

A 3-year-old golden retriever being introduced to her new puppy sibling has melted hearts online this week. On TikTok, user kembaandbronny shared the video with more than 26,000 followers, and it has since been viewed more than 6 million times. In the video, Kemba, the resident pup, rushes into the room to meet new puppy Bronny, who is tucked away in a basket ready for his new sister to discover him. Dogs are social animals that enjoy the company of others, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC). Picking out a new puppy is a big step, and before bringing your new arrival home, it is important to prepare your resident dog for the change. "When they first enter their new home, puppies have a lot to learn, both from you and the established dog," the AKC said. Supervising interactions between the two dogs at first is very important to ensure that the elder dog isn't overwhelmed and gets a break from the puppy a few times a day. "Eventually, with an introduction that … [Read more...] about Golden retriever being introduced to new sibling melts hearts
Toad in cowboy hat rides turtle around house in bizarre video
An extraordinary video showing a toad in a cowboy hat hitching a ride on the back of a turtle has been spreading cheer online. From baby hippos bonding with giraffes to gorillas making grand entrances , there's no end to the appetite for cute animal videos on the internet—and with good reason. Studies have shown that watching animal videos can actually help reduce stress and anxiety. In a 2019 experiment conducted by researchers from the University of Leeds, 19 test subjects were showing images and videos of cute animals over a 30-minute period. Fifteen university students and four members of staff took part in the study, which was conducted during an exams period, when all of those involved would have been under more stress than usual. What they found was that, in each instance, participants experienced a decrease in blood pressure, heart rate and anxiety after watching the 30-minute session.
