ASEAN makes great technological achievements: WEF President
WEF President Børge Brende (first, left) and other ASEAN leaders at the opening session of the WEF ASEAN 2018 in Hanoi on September 12 The following is the full text of the interview. - Reporter: Industry 4.0 has been creating drastic and dramatic changes for ASEAN countries’ socio-economic development. How do you assess their achievements in the context of fast-advancing science-technology applications? Brende: We see that many ASEAN countries have developed strong national-level plans for the digital economy, like the Smart Nation initiative in Singapore or Thailand 4.0. So far, the plans seem to focus on infrastructure roll-out, and that is not a bad thing; without the proper infrastructure, it is impossible to compete. Technological advancements transform media industry: Union
Davao, Philippines (ANTARA News) - Advancements in technology and the digital economy are dramatically transforming how media is created, distributed, and monetized, President of the UNI Global Union Philippine Liaison Council (UNI-PLC) Exequiel Nidea stated. The Yorkshire Post says: NHS side-effects. Role of technology and after-care
0 Have your say THE NATIONAL Health Service is – in many respects – emblematic of the advance of technology over the past 70 years. Operations once regarded as complicated, and necessitating long periods of convalescence, are now commonplace as more surgery is undertaken with pinpoint accuracy by state-of-the-art robotic devices which can perform medical miracles. It means people can undergo hip replacements, or operations to remove prostates, as day patients – something that was inconceivable in 1948 – and it is welcome that Yorkshire is at the forefront of these changes.Together with groundbreaking progress in medical science, it means the NHS is now the victim of its own success as it struggles to meet higher public expectations and the health needs of a growing – and ageing – population. And while it should be a source of major pride that surgery need not be so invasive, therefore lessening the risk of avoidable complications, new … [Read more...] about The Yorkshire Post says: NHS side-effects. Where tomorrow’s technology is born
Arnav Kapur can order a pizza just by thinking it. Want pepperoni on top? No problem—the 23-year-old can make that happen without saying a word or lifting a finger. It probably sounds like something out of science fiction, but it's as real as the Domino's pizza that showed up and fed a 60 Minutes crew recently. Kapur is a graduate student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab, an interdisciplinary research lab that advances technology through creative—even outlandish—ideas. Started in the 1980s as an attempt to merge computers and the arts, the Media Lab has now expanded to more than 200 graduate students who are given free rein to dream, design, and engineer their ideas, no matter how far-fetched. 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley and producer Katie Kerbstat met Kapur when they visited the Media Lab for a story on the broadcast this week. Kapur's project, called AlterEgo, is a wearable device that intercepts electrical signals, which the … [Read more...] about Where tomorrow’s technology is born
