We have all heard that the secret to someone’s heart is great food; well, in our professional realm, I venture to say that the secret to the probate clerk’s heart is a properly done filing.  In order to determine exactly what that means, I surveyed some of the Colorado probate registrars. Last November was an anniversary of sorts for electronic filing, a system that uses digital documents in court filings to replace the paper filings used in centuries past. The federal courts marked 10 years since the introduction of an electronic filing system, unflatteringly known by the acronym CM/ECF. It is the largest e-filing effort to date.But while the federal courts’ move toward digital documents is nearly complete, the rest of the country is mostly just getting on board.
