Becky Ann Vreeland, 60, was taken into custody for murder after the body of Riley Lynn Nolan was found in a trash can, according to a local station, KFOR. ChildHelp reports that the "United States has one of the worst records among industrialized nations—losing on average 5 children every day to child abuse and neglect. The station reports that on Tuesday evening, around 7:30, officers were called to a residence in Oklahoma City for a report of a dead toddler, approximately between 2 and 3 years old. Once on the scene, officers discovered Nolan's body, with obvious signs of trauma, according to a release from police. Following the discovery by officers, Vreeland was taken in for questioning. And they call it puppy love

KLANG: When Joanne Low went to Manjung, Sitiawan in 2020 to help a friend rescue and neuter stray dogs there, she had expected the task to be done within a few months and return home to Kuala Lumpur. However, what she saw there has resulted in the 55-year-old real estate agent staying put in Manjung. While busy trapping and neutering the street canines all over Manjung, Low stumbled upon an elderly man feeding dogs at a nearby landfill. The dogs were released at the landfill by the local council after being caught and would die of starvation if not provided food. The elderly man, Thomas David, was a retired school teacher who took it upon himself to ensure the pitiful dogs did not go hungry. “So, I too started feeding the dogs at the landfill and neutering them,’’ Low said in an interview. Soon after, a group of animal lovers who fed the dogs at the landfill, including Low and David, registered a non-governmental organisation, aptly named Homeless Paws of Manjung … [Read more...] about And they call it puppy love

The Viral Online Challenge Is Never Coming Back

May 24, 2022 by www.theatlantic.com

Ten years ago this month, the Harvard men’s baseball team put a video on YouTube in which they danced and lip-synched to Carly Rae Jepsen’s No. 1 hit, “Call Me Maybe.” It was funny because, well, you know: They were muscle-y boys with serious jawlines, and they were doing choreography that involved punching the ceiling of a van; this was back when a lot of people thought that pop songs were really stupid and for girls. So the video got really popular. Then other groups of people started to film themselves doing their own versions of the song: college students in Idaho; the Miami Dolphins cheerleaders ; the U.S. Olympic swim team . Maybe you, too, were inclined to dance and lip-synch to Carly Rae Jepsen’s No. 1 hit, “Call Me Maybe,” with your friends and post it to the internet. This is how one of the first super-viral “challenges” on social media was born. Planking, where people filmed or photographed themselves lying flat—like a plank—in unexpected places, had already … [Read more...] about The Viral Online Challenge Is Never Coming Back
