Former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch testified for hours on Friday about being removed from her post and attacks on her from President Donald Trump as part of the House Democrats' ongoing impeachment inquiry. Yovanovitch appeared before the House Intelligence Committee for a public hearing and was the third witness to testify to Congress this week about the Ukraine controversy. On Wednesday, diplomat William Taylor and State Department official George Kent gave damning testimony against the president. Yovanovitch was appointed ambassador under several different presidents, both Republican and Democrat, and began serving in Ukraine in August 2016. In May 2019, she was abruptly removed from her post even though, she says, her bosses assured her she'd done nothing wrong. The reasoning behind her dismissal has become a major focus of the House investigation of the president's conduct toward Ukraine. Yovanovitch told Congress that Trump and his personal attorney Rudy … [Read more...] about Five highlights from former Ukraine ambassador Marie Yovanovitch’s testimony at Day 2 impeachment hearing

Police chief’s suspicious announcement to resign
His statement translates into an unequivocal opposition to the Yoon Suk-yeol administration’s attempt to reign in the police, which will become more powerful when they take away all investigative powers from the prosecution in September. The police chief made the announcement about one hour after Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, who commands the police, presented a plan to create a bureau inside the ministry to efficiently control the police. But Kim’s argument is not convincing. After the passage in April of the revisions of the laws by the Democratic Party (DP), the police can wield enormous power extending to investigations on communist activities and crimes of soldiers before enlistment. About the recommendations by the advisory board, Interior Minister Lee said they are just a part of an effort to “normalize the aberrant ways of the Blue House directly commanding the police by bypassing the ministry” in the past. First of all, it is not a responsible … [Read more...] about Police chief’s suspicious announcement to resign
Russia ‘pouring fire’ on Ukrainian city as offensive mounts
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 SLOVIANSK, Ukraine (AP) — Russia was mounting an all-out assault on the last Ukrainian stronghold in the eastern Luhansk region, “pouring fire" on the city of Lysychansk from the ground and air, the local governor said Monday, as Western leaders met to discuss ways of bolstering support for Kyiv. Luhansk Gov. Serhiy Haidai said Russian forces were pummeling Lysychansk after capturing the neighboring city of Sievierodonetsk in recent days. It's part of a stepped-up Russian offensive to wrest the broader Donbas region from Ukrainian government control in what Western experts say has become the new main goal of President Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine, now in its fifth month. “They’re pouring fire on the city both from the air and from the ground. After the takeover of Sievierodonetsk, the enemy army has concentrated all its forces on capturing (our) last stronghold in the Luhansk … [Read more...] about Russia ‘pouring fire’ on Ukrainian city as offensive mounts
I was a stripper long before OnlyFans. Sex workers today need to be honest about the industry
A few years ago, when I saw a mom of my eight-year-old son’s friend at the grocery store, she asked, “I saw your yoga pose photo on Facebook. You’re so flexible…Were you a dancer?” Shame surged through me — I never know what to say. “Kind of,” I replied, with a shrug. I wanted to answer the question honestly, but correctly. I don’t like to be misleading. Yes, I was a dancer. Just not the kind of dancer she was thinking. She had images in mind of a ballerina in a tutu, but for anybody who knows my past, that’s not the kind of costume I wore. Recommended Why is OnlyFans banning explicit content? As OnlyFans bans ‘sexually-explicit content’, what else is on there? With a ban on explicit content, OnlyFans is setting itself up to fail I never know how someone will react to me having made money by taking my clothes off, so it’s better never to go into the specifics. I started stripping when I was 18 years old. As an actress, I … [Read more...] about I was a stripper long before OnlyFans. Sex workers today need to be honest about the industry
Will The Unification Of The West Reside In World War II Style Alliances?
To look at it, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was not a total shocker because of its historical ties and shared Soviet history. For Russia, Ukraine was a way to regain its lost glory at the peak of the Soviet expansion. However, a more strategic and immediate reason for Russia’s invasion lies in the eastward expansion of NATO and the pro-western stance of the current Ukrainian government, which Russia considers a threat lurking on its borders. On the other hand, a poll conducted by the International Republican Institute revealed that Ukrainians perceive Russia as an imperial power seeking to trample on their sovereignty and territorial integrity, with nearly 80 per cent of the population wanting to join the European Union. The world is still coming to terms with Russia’s Ukrainian invasion and the scale of the consequent humanitarian catastrophe. On February 24, 2022, in a televised address, Putin ordered military tanks to run over Ukraine in a “special military operation” to … [Read more...] about Will The Unification Of The West Reside In World War II Style Alliances?
Fundraiser for Burger King Employee Who Got ‘Goodies Bag’ Hits Rs 1.2 Crore Goal
Kevin Ford, the now-viral Burger King employee who was celebrated by the internet for completing 27 years of service without a single day of absence, has great reason to be over the moon. A fundraiser arranged by his daughter recently surpassed $1,50,000 (Rs 1,17,44,100) last week. HMS Host, the business through which Burger King hires personnel, gave Kevin Ford a tiny bag of gifts. He claimed that the corporation sent him goodies as a token of appreciation for his services. But now, owing to a GoFundMe that his daughter Seryna set up, he has received much more than he had anticipated. The comedian and actor David Spade was among the first people to donate. He had made a whopping donation of $5,000 (Rs 3,91,470) and now the total donations have crossed Rs 1 crore, leaving Kevin all emotional. Seryna organised the fundraiser to thank her single father for working hard for 27 years to support her and her siblings through school and college. “Yes, he has never missed a day of work … [Read more...] about Fundraiser for Burger King Employee Who Got ‘Goodies Bag’ Hits Rs 1.2 Crore Goal
Jon Rahm has ball cheekily stolen by kids at US Open before somehow making birdie
Jon Rahm remains right in the mix to defend his US Open title despite having his ball stolen by youngsters on the 18th hole. Rahm, 27, was level par as he headed down the last, and despite missing the fairway was left well placed to play an approach into the green. However, when he arrived at the spot where he was sure his ball had landed - it was nowhere to be seen. Playing partners Collin Morikawa and James Piot were none the wiser as to what had happened, but fortunately for the Spaniard, spectators had witnessed where the ball had landed. It just hadn't stayed in its resting position for long, that's all. Two opportunist fans had seemingly picked up the ball before scarpering away - but not before Rahm had seen them first. And the world No 2 was able to see the funny side of what went on. “I am 100% sure I saw the two kids that stole it,” he told reporters, whilst chuckling. "Somebody — I’m pretty sure I know who it was. I recognised the two kids that were running the … [Read more...] about Jon Rahm has ball cheekily stolen by kids at US Open before somehow making birdie
India has full access to Headley: Napolitano
The U.S. has given India “full access” to David Coleman Headley, the U.S.-based Lashkar-e-Taiba operative of Pakistani origin who played a key role in the Mumbai attacks, U.S. Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said on Friday. “I think when the case is over, there will probably be more access given,” she said, addressing a press conference with Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram after the India-U.S. homeland security dialogue got under way here. She parried questions whether she agreed with India's conviction that Pakistan's ISI was involved in plotting the Mumbai attacks and whether the U.S. would lean on Islamabad to end terror aimed at India. “Secretary of State [Hillary Clinton] is today in Pakistan and has already commented on it,” she said. In his opening remarks earlier in the day, Mr. Chidambaram pointed out to his U.S. counterpart that India “lives in perhaps the most difficult neighbourhood in the world.” The “global epicentre of terrorism … [Read more...] about India has full access to Headley: Napolitano
Matt Fitzpatrick echoes Tiger Woods in firm stance against Saudi breakaway series
English golf star Matt Fitzpatrick has echoed the opinion of golf legend Tiger Woods , after making the decision to decline a mega-money switch to the LIV Invitational Golf Series in search of ‘legacies and trophies’. The Saudi-backed series led by former world No. 1 Greg Norman has sent shockwaves around the world of golf in recent months, as it looks to lure some of the sport’s biggest names away from the DP World and PGA Tours. After plenty of speculation the entry list for the breakaway circuit’s inaugural event at Centurion Club was released on Wednesday ahead of the first tee off next week. The likes of Dustin Johnson, Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia were all included, but one man who was not on the list is Fitzpatrick. The Sheffield-born star has announced himself as one of the world’s best over the past few seasons, picking up seven European Tour titles and two Ryder Cup call-ups all whilst only being 27. When the offer from Norman and his team came calling … [Read more...] about Matt Fitzpatrick echoes Tiger Woods in firm stance against Saudi breakaway series
US Open fan clutches his face on floor as Phil Mickelson hits spectator with stray ball
It seems wherever Phil Mickelson goes, drama follows, after a fan at this week’s US Open was left clutching his face after being struck by one of Lefty’s stray shots. Mickelson was back competing on American soil for the first time since the fallout surrounding his allegiances to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series. Back in February, the 52-year-old branded the state of Saudi Arabia as ‘scary mother f*****s’ due to their human rights record, but implied he was willing to look past this and compete on the breakaway circuit in order to gain ‘leverage’ over the PGA Tour. His return at Brookline was met with cheers from the Massachusetts crowd, despite his once glittering legacy seemingly being left in tatters. In spite of the initial support, one fan was left less than impressed with the six-time major winner on day two of the third major of the campaign after one of Mickelson’s wayward shots struck him. Following the incident, the spectator was left in some discomfort on the … [Read more...] about US Open fan clutches his face on floor as Phil Mickelson hits spectator with stray ball
