Ireland Baldwin reveals rape, abortion experience in Roe v. Wade reaction
Ireland Baldwin has revealed that she was raped as a teenager, and recounted her experience with abortion in light of the Supreme Court 's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade . The Supreme Court's conservative majority on Friday morning ended nearly five decades of precedent by overturning the judicial body's landmark 1973 decision, which had established a woman's constitutional right to an abortion. The decision could see abortion bans in roughly half of the states in the U.S. Thirteen states, mainly in the South and Midwest, already have laws on the books that ban abortion in the case of Roe being overturned. Soon after the ruling was publicly announced, a host of celebrities, Democrats and abortion rights activists expressed their outrage at the decision , while many others shared personal stories about their own experiences with abortion. Baldwin, 26, counted herself among those recounting deeply personal experiences on Sunday, when she shared a TikTok video in … [Read more...] about Ireland Baldwin reveals rape, abortion experience in Roe v. Ex-Minneapolis police officer Mohamed Noor released from prison for fatally shooting Justine Ruszczyk Damond
MINNEAPOLIS — A former Minneapolis police officer who fatally shot an unarmed woman who called 911 to report a possible sexual assault in the alley behind her home was released from prison on parole Monday, months after his murder conviction was overturned and he was resentenced on a lesser charge. The Minnesota Department of Corrections website said Mohamed Noor, 36, was placed under the supervision of Hennepin County Community Corrections. He was freed 18 days shy of the fifth anniversary of the July 15, 2017, fatal shooting of Justine Ruszczyk Damond, a 40-year-old dual U.S.-Australian citizen and yoga teacher who was engaged to be married. Corrections Department spokesman Nicholas Kimball confirmed that Noor was released Monday morning. He said he couldn’t confirm where Noor will be living, but that released offenders are generally supervised by the county where they live. He said Noor was held in North Dakota for most of his sentence and had no disciplinary issues in … [Read more...] about Ex-Minneapolis police officer Mohamed Noor released from prison for fatally shooting Justine Ruszczyk Damond
Harrison Ford, Sam Elliott, Martin Sheen, Mark Hamill Narrated Lincoln Project Political Ads
Several influential left-wing celebrities — including A-list actors Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Sam Elliott, and Martin Sheen — have lent their voices to the anti-Trump Lincoln Project, which now faces mounting criticisms and questions following damning accusations lodged against one of its co-founders, John Weaver, who has been accused of sending sexually explicit messages to young men. The super PAC, founded by anti-Trump Republicans, attracted support from high-profile Democrats who shared the common goal of ousting former President Trump from office. Left-wing celebrities gravitated toward the organization which gained fame as co-founder George Conway routinely criticized Trump, even as his wife, Kellyanne Conway, served as the president’s adviser. On September 11, 2020, for example, Conway declared Trump the “greatest threat to the safety and security of Americans.” But now, the organization faces unprecedented criticism as one of its co-founders, John Weaver, faces … [Read more...] about Harrison Ford, Sam Elliott, Martin Sheen, Mark Hamill Narrated Lincoln Project Political Ads
26/11: ‘ISI, Lashkar collaborated closely’
Lashkar-e-Taiba supreme commander Hafiz Muhammad Saeed told the 10-member assault team, which attacked Mumbai in November 2008, that “being shot would feel like a pinprick, bloodstains would be like rose petals, and that angels would come down to take their souls.” Saeed's exhortation, revealed in documents filed by prosecutors in the ongoing trial of Chicago-based terror suspect Tahawwur Rana, was made after the assault team members were told they were expected to die in the attack on Mumbai — rather than escape as earlier planned. Details contained in the prosecution's proffer of evidence — a legal document that contains a summary of the arguments it intends to present — offer substantial new information on the 26/11 Mumbai plot. Sajid Mir, the Lashkar's commander of transnational operations, had overall control of the tactical planning of the operation, and issued directions to the attackers using Internet and satellite phone links. Mir, the proffer records, was instrumental … [Read more...] about 26/11: ‘ISI, Lashkar collaborated closely’
Rudy Giuliani says back slap felt like a gun “shot”
Rudy Giuliani said when he was slapped on the back on Sunday, it at first felt like somebody had shot him. While campaigning for his son Andrew Giuliani's gubernatorial campaign in Staten Island, the former New York City mayor stopped at a ShopRite grocery store to use the restroom. However, once he came out, an alleged grocery store employee appeared to walk up behind him and slap him on the back. Giuliani recounted the alleged assault while appearing on The Curtis Sliwa Show . "I come out of the men's room. A group of people are around me, hugging me, kissing me, telling me Andrew's great," he said. "All the sudden, I feel a shot on my back, like somebody shot me. I went forward, but luckily I didn't fall down." The former mayor added that he is "lucky" he is in "pretty good shape," because if he were not, he could have "hit the ground and probably crack my skull." After the alleged assault, the suspected attacker who has been identified as 39-year-old Daniel Gill, … [Read more...] about Rudy Giuliani says back slap felt like a gun “shot”
Brittney Griner Is a Rallying Cry for the LGBTQ+ Community to Fight for Cannabis Criminal Justice Reform
As we enter into Pride month, Brittney Griner—a Black lesbian and WNBA All-Star—enters into her fourth month of wrongful detainment in Russia. Griner’s case has shed light on the continued criminalization of cannabis—an injustice that is rooted in the “War on Drugs” both at home and abroad. It should also galvanize fans, public officials, and LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations to use their voices to fight against marijuana prohibition, a policy that’s rooted in racism and homophobia. To be fair, as outrage over Brittney’s situation has grown, organizations like the National LGBTQ Task Force, GLSEN, Human Rights Campaign , and the National Black Justice Coalition condemned this act by Russia as racist and homophobic and put out statements of support for Brittney. However, most of these statements left out a timely criticism of the global “War on Drugs” and the way it has criminalized cannabis, the substance for which Griner was allegedly detained. It’s easy to attribute Griner’s … [Read more...] about Brittney Griner Is a Rallying Cry for the LGBTQ+ Community to Fight for Cannabis Criminal Justice Reform
Cyberattack forces Iran steel company to halt production
One of Iran’s major steel companies said on June 27 it was forced to halt production after being hit by a cyberattack, apparently marking one of the biggest such assaults on the country’s strategic industrial sector in recent memory. The state-owned Khuzestan Steel Company said experts had determined the plant had to stop work until further notice “due to technical problems” following “cyberattacks.” The company’s website was down on Monday. The company’s CEO, Amin Ebrahimi, claimed that Khuzestan Steel managed to thwart the cyberattack and prevent structural damage to production lines that would impact supply chains and customers. “Fortunately with time and awareness, the attack was unsuccessful,” the semiofficial Mehr news agency quoted Ebrahimi as saying, adding that he expected the company’s website to be restored and everything to return to “normal” by the end of Monday. A local news channel, Jamaran, reported that the attack failed because the factory happened to be … [Read more...] about Cyberattack forces Iran steel company to halt production
