Lawmakers Tour D.C. Jail Where Jan. 6 Defendants Are Held

March 25, 2023 by www.nytimes.com

WASHINGTON — When Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republican of Georgia, arranged a tour of the D.C. jail to inspect the conditions of defendants charged in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, Democrats faced a choice: Boycott or participate. House Democrats had watched last Congress as the Republican leader Kevin McCarthy pulled his members from a Democratic-led select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack, and then found themselves without a voice in the nationally televised hearings. After debating the matter internally, the Democrats were determined not to make that same mistake. So, after a roughly two-hour tour of the jail Friday, when Ms. Greene finished her remarks to news reporters gathered outside, Representative Jasmine Crockett, Democrat of Texas, stepped up to the microphones. “Somebody’s got to be here to tell the truth,” said Ms. Crockett, a first-term member of Congress and a former public defender. “If we weren’t here, there would be no check for whatever … [Read more...] about Lawmakers Tour D.C. March 25, 2023 by www.breitbart.com

The owner of a Rivian R1S electric SUV was overjoyed to have his dream electric vehicle after waiting for years. But after owning the car for just days, it got stuck in the snow and immobilized by a safety feature, leading to a $2,100 bill to transport it to a repair facility. Business Insider reports that a recent incident involving an owner of a Rivian R1S has forced the maker of the electric vehicles to examine its customer service more carefully and think about making changes to improve the user experience. The owner of an R1S truck, Chase Merrill, encountered a difficult situation when his electric SUV got stuck in deep snow and a safety feature rendered it immobile. “It’s a good investment”: Young couple buys and renovates old laundromat

March 25, 2023 by www.newsweek.com

One couple's journey to renovate a tired laundromat has captured viral attention as they finally opened their new and improved community hub. Erin Carpenter, 30, and her husband Jonathan, 33, have been renovating properties for years, and while on the hunt for their next project stumbled on a laundromat in their hometown of Charleston, South Carolina. "A laundromat was never really on my radar personally, but Jon is a very smart entrepreneur and businessman, he's always been interested in the concept of a laundromat," Carpenter told Newsweek . Married in June 2020, the couple had their own experience of using laundromats during their 4-month honeymoon living on the road in an RV: "We worked remotely, so we sometimes needed to work from laundromats. We took so many photos of them," said Carpenter. "They were places we spent a lot of time and there aren't a lot that are cozy and comfortable." In July 2022, the couple purchased the building in Charleston which had been a … [Read more...] about “It’s a good investment”: Young couple buys and renovates old laundromat

Britney Spears ‘warned’ by animal control after her dog escapes and ‘bites’ elderly man

February 25, 2023 by www.mirror.co.uk

Britney Spears has reportedly been given a warning by animal control after her dog escaped and allegedly bit an elderly man. The singer and her husband Sam Asghari's Doberman Porsha escaped from their California mansion earlier this week and was tracked down five miles from home. The dog was given to Spears by her husband with the promise that she will be trained to protect his wife from "any motherf****r with bad intentions". However, the dog got out of the couples' $7.4 million Thousand Oaks home on Thursday. Sources said the dog came across a cyclist in his 70s who was getting off his bike when the dog bit him. Britney has been given a 'warning' ( Image: Twitter) Sam gave Britney the dog ( Image: Instagram) It was then that a member of Spears' security team got a hold of the dog, TMZ reports. Animal control reportedly contacted Spears, Asghari and their security team, warning them to make sure their dog doesn't escape again. Sources added … [Read more...] about Britney Spears ‘warned’ by animal control after her dog escapes and ‘bites’ elderly man

Solar Companies Go BANKRUPT Once Subsidies Are Cut

October 8, 2015 by dailycaller.com

Two British solar energy firms, Climate Energy and the Mark Group , collapsed into administration (another word for insolvency in the U.K.) within two days of each other. Climate Energy was the U.K.’s largest independent energy efficiency company, with revenues of £47 million last year, but now they’re in dire straits. The company has blamed its collapse on cuts in government solar subsidies by the Tory government. The Mark Group, the other solar company to bust, also blamed U.K. conservatives for its demise, but the company’s New Zealand branch and two separate branches in the United States also went under in recent months. The Tory government says that it is supporting “good-value green energy” and that it wants to “cut emissions as cost-effectively as possible.” Tories argue that technology costs have fallen, and therefore, consumers need to be protected from higher energy bills. In 2014, energy bills in the United Kingdom were roughly 54 percent higher … [Read more...] about Solar Companies Go BANKRUPT Once Subsidies Are Cut

Mary Trump shares ominous advice for Alvin Bragg as Donald Trump attacks

March 25, 2023 by www.newsweek.com

Mary Trump, a political commentator and the niece of former President Donald Trump , issued a warning on Friday to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg as he faces continued attacks from her uncle. Bragg and his office are currently leading a long-term investigation into allegations of Trump's involvement in a 2016 plan to pay $130,000 in "hush money" to adult film star Stormy Daniels , in exchange for her staying quiet about an affair the two allegedly had a decade prior. Recent moves have indicated to legal experts that Bragg is nearing a criminal indictment against Trump for falsifying business records pertaining to the payment, which would be the first such indictment brought against a former president in American history. Trump, for his part, has denied that the affair with Daniels ever happened and has consistently attacked the legitimacy of the Manhattan district attorney's investigation, accusing Bragg of being a politically motivated "rogue" prosecutor. Last … [Read more...] about Mary Trump shares ominous advice for Alvin Bragg as Donald Trump attacks

Former GOP chair outraged at Republicans’ visit to Jan. 6 rioters

March 25, 2023 by www.newsweek.com

Michael Steele, the former chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), slammed House Republicans for visiting a jail where January 6 defendants are being held. A bipartisan group of lawmakers serving on the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability visited the Washington, D.C. jail on Friday. The visit reignited criticism from some over the GOP's response to the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol building , which saw a group of former President Donald Trump 's supporters violently protest in a failed attempt to force Congress to block President Joe Biden 's Electoral College victory. Some Republicans have condemned the treatment of these defendants , arguing they are being unfairly held for political purposes. Critics, however, have accused GOP lawmakers of siding with the rioters who sought to block the peaceful transfer of power after the 2020 presidential election. "We have to work as hard as possible to defund the two-tiered 'Injustice … [Read more...] about Former GOP chair outraged at Republicans’ visit to Jan. 6 rioters
