JULY 12 is one of the biggest dates in the Northern Ireland calendar as hundreds of thousands turn out to watch parades commemorating King William of Orange. Steeped in history - as well as violence and controversy - the Twelfth celebrates the protestant King "Billy" defeating the catholic King James at the Battle of the Boyne in Ireland in 1690. What is the 12th July parade route in Belfast? After the lighting of massive five-storey tall bonfires across the country the previous night, July 12 sees protestant flute bands and the Orange Order take to the streets for marches. A public holiday in Northern Ireland, as many as 200,000 people line the routes to take part in the fervent pro-British celebrations. More than 1,400 bands made up of 30,000 musicians and "Orange" marchers take part in the parades. In Belfast, the city parade leaves Belfast Orange Hall, at Carlisle Circus, at 10am today. The Millar Memorial flute band will lead the march along Clifton Street, Donegall Street … [Read more...] about The Twelfth – what is the 12th July parade route in Belfast and where else are there parades in Northern Ireland?

Fourth of July is here and you know what that means – time to paint your face with the colors of the star-spangled banner, put on your summer hat and head outdoors to celebrate Independence Day with your closest family and friends. And what is a 4th of July party without age-old food traditions! AMERICANS might mark the Fourth of July to celebrate their independence from the British Empire. But that doesn't mean that Brits can't get involved in marking the day. Here's all you need to know. What is Independence Day? Independence Day celebrates America’s independence from the British Empire. The British had inhabited America since 1587 and exploited their resources such as tobacco and tea. Tensions began to rise between the British and Americans as the British Government pushed for their own financial gain and continued to exploit American goods through taxation. Founding Father and head of the Sons of Liberty organisation, Samuel Adams, and his men boarded three ships in Boston harbour and threw 342 chests of tea overboard. Violent acts often arose from the tension, most memorably an incident that became known as The Boston Tea Party in 1773. In 1775, the 13 colonies that made up America declared a war of independence against Britain and on July 4, 1776, Congress … [Read more...] about How is US Independence Day celebrated, are there events in the UK? 4th July events taking place in 2018
Arvada is going back to its roots when it comes to celebrating the Fourth of July this summer, dropping its expanded Independence Day celebration that featured vendors and live music for a night of fireworks only. The city cites several reasons for scaling back the event: a lack of volunteers; the strain on policing; low interest by food vendors; limited parking; complaints from surrounding neighborhoods; and an inability to secure enough traffic barricades and cones due to so much construction in the metro area. The fireworks show will be held at Stenger Sports Complex, West 58th Avenue and Oak Street, with gates opening at 7 p.m. and fireworks starting two hours later. Parking is free but no recreational vehicles will be permitted. No alcohol or pets are allowed, though people can bring propane grills for cooking. … [Read more...] about Arvada to scale back 4th of July celebration this summer to just fireworks
