"WHO doesn’t want to be a princess?", beams Amelia Lily. She may be remembered for her pink hair and her feisty attitude as a 16-year-old during the 2011 run of The X Factor, but Lily has gone on to not only succeed in the pop world but also carve out a successful career in musical theatre – and she's relishing her biggest role yet. The 23-year-old is currently pulling on a crown in the role of Princess Fiona in Shrek the Musical, which will be heading to Belfast and Dublin later this month. "It’s one of those roles that was on my bucket list. I’m so lucky and honoured to be playing such an amazing role," says Lily, who particularly enjoys her character's lack of sterotypical tropes. “What I love about Princess Fiona is that she is not your average princess. There are definitely similarities between me and Fiona. She’s a bit of a tomboy, she’s feisty, she's got confidence and is a funny girl who lives in this fairytale world and believes she … [Read more...] about Amelia Lily tells how stage musical version of kids classic Shrek has the X factor
40 x 40 house plans
An image of the inside of a capsule. Photo: Haibu4.com It promised to offer a solution to Barcelona’s housing crisis: A space filled with pods measuring 120cm x 120cm x 200cm where low income workers could live side-by-side like bees in a hive for as little as €200 a month. But Barcelona City Hall has refused to issue a license insisting that such small digs are not suitable for human habitation. A group of Barcelona based entrepreneurs came up with the idea to convert empty business premises of 100 square meters into a communal living area containing 15 capsule homes – each equipped with a bed, TV, storage space and power plugs – following a module made popular in Japan. Indeed the name of the project - Haibu – means beehive in Japanese. Although capsule accommodation already exists as a concept in Spain - several budget hostels in Barcelona offer pods as an upscale alternative to bunk bed dorms, Haibu 4.0 is not pitched towards tourists. The … [Read more...] about Barcelona vetoes ‘capsule housing’ plan for low income workers
WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Tina Smith embraced her past work with Planned Parenthood on Thursday as she pushed back at the Trump administration's proposal to bar the organization from receiving federal family planning money. Smith joined fellow Democratic Sen. Patty Murray, of Washington state, and leaders from Planned Parenthood and abortion rights organizations to denounce the plan in a Thursday conference call with reporters. "I am on this call certainly as a proud United States senator, but also as a woman who served as a volunteer for Planned Parenthood and then was also an executive for the Planned Parenthood organization and healthcare centers in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota," Smith said. "This proposed rule is an affront to women." Trump this week proposed a rule to revoke federal Title X funding from Planned Parenthood and eliminate a current requirement that funding recipients provide abortion counseling and referrals. Smith is preparing for a special election … [Read more...] about Smith highlights Planned Parenthood past in criticizing Trump’s abortion rule
The planned revival of a policy dating to Ronald Reagan’s presidency may finally present a way for President Donald Trump to fulfill his campaign promise to “defund” Planned Parenthood. Or at least to evict it from the federal family planning program, where it provides care to more than 40 percent of that program’s 4 million patients. Congress last year failed to wipe out funding for Planned Parenthood, because the bill faced overwhelming Democratic objections and would not have received the 60 votes needed to pass in the Senate.MENTAL HEALTH: Major depression diagnoses skyrocketing in millennials, adolescentsBut the imposition of a slightly retooled version of a regulation, which was upheld by the Supreme Court in 1991 after a five-year fight, could potentially accomplish what Congress could not. POLITICS 05/18/2018 01:25 pm ET Updated 43 minutes ago The president reportedly doesn’t know the difference between HIV and HPV, but he still wants to penalize family planning providers. By Laura Bassett 160 The Trump administration will propose a new rule Friday that would block federal funds to any organization that provides or even shares space with an abortion provider ― a domestic version of the so-called “Global Gag Rule” the president reinstated and expanded last year. The move would notably strip Title X funding from Planned Parenthood, which provides birth control, STI testing and treatment, and cancer screenings to nearly half of the federal family planning program’s 4 million low-income patients. Planned Parenthood decried the move particularly in light of the news that billionaire Bill Gates said he had to explain to President Donald Trump ― twice ― the difference between HIV and … [Read more...] about Trump’s New ‘Domestic Gag Rule’ Would Strip Funds From Planned Parenthood
