New Connections Triple, 2021 Best Year for Offshore Wind Industry: Report
The offshore wind industry witnessed a three-fold increase in grid connections worldwide from 2020 to 2021, led by 21.1 GW of new installations, recording one of its best year-on-year growth yet, according to the Global Offshore Wind Report released by the Belgium-based Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC). The offshore wind now represents 7% of total global cumulative installations with the current global cumulative capacity of 56 GW. This is good news for the fast evolving renewable energy sector which is most critical for the fight against climate change, and looming energy crisis. The global report also recognises India’s ambitious goal of achieving 30 GW offshore wind capacity by 2030, despite being relatively new to offshore wind. The target was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at COP26 in Glasgow where he committed to installing 500 GW of non-fossil fuels-based power generation capacity by 2030. Setting the plan in motion, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy … [Read more...] about New Connections Triple, 2021 Best Year for Offshore Wind Industry: Report
U.S. midterms bring few changes from social media companies
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Social media companies are offering few specifics as they share their plans for safeguarding the U.S. midterm elections. Platforms like Facebook and Twitter are generally staying the course from the 2020 voting season, which was marred by conspiracies and culminated in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Video app TikTok, which has soared in popularity since the last election cycle while also cementing its place as a problem spot for misinformation, announced Wednesday it is launching an election center that will help people find voting locations and candidate information. The center will show up on videos about U.S. elections and in the feeds of users who search election-related hashtags. TikTok is also partnering with voting advocacy groups to provide specialized voting information for college students, people who are deaf, military members living overseas and those with past criminal convictions. TikTok, like other platforms, would not … [Read more...] about U.S. midterms bring few changes from social media companies
Musk tweet joking about buying Manchester United causes stir
LONDON (AP) — Elon Musk caused a stir by tweeting that he was buying the English soccer team Manchester United — whose current owners are opposed by many fans — then saying several hours later that it was a joke. It comes as the billionaire Tesla CEO faces a legal battle in the U.S. after backing out of a deal to buy Twitter for $44 billion. He is a prolific user of the platform, often musing about social issues or joking with his 103 million followers and occasionally getting into trouble with U.S. regulators. Early Wednesday, Musk sent a tweet about his political affiliations and then added in a second tweet: “Also, I’m buying Manchester United ur welcome.” That came as shocking news in the Manchester United world — albeit welcome to many — after nearly a decade of sub-par performances. Asked by a follower whether he was serious, Musk later tweeted, “No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams.” It wasn't Musk's first joke about buying a … [Read more...] about Musk tweet joking about buying Manchester United causes stir

For 2023, the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) projected a growth of 4.67 per cent in India’s demand to 5.38 per cent. This, however, will be lower than 4.86 per cent growth in China. India is the world’s third largest oil importing and consuming nation behind the US and China. The demand for petroleum products in India is supported by the healthy economic growth of 7.1 per cent, continuing economic reopening amid ease of COVID restrictions and easing of trade-related bottlenecks supporting both mobility and … [Read more...] about Petrol, Diesel Demand To Grow: India’s Oil Requirement To Rise 7.7% in 2022, Says OPEC
