EUGeneral Data Protection Regulation Discussion BroadcastThe Assistant European Data Protection Supervisor and the Rapporteur for the Data Protection Regulation have discussed the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). They noted that the timeline that had been set for the end of 2015 was nearing, but there was optimism that there could be political agreement in this time. There are still some core compromises needed: for example, in relation to the requirement for a mandatory data protection officer, the question of consent and other grounds for processing data (in particular legitimate interests for processing), but the position is moving toward a consensus. New Milbank Partner Quits After Former Firm Alleges ‘Personal Misconduct’

Less than a week ago, a German lawyer’s leap from Hengeler Mueller to the local offices of Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy was being portrayed as a coup for his new United States-based law firm.Now, however, less than two weeks after he started work as a partner of the firm Jan. 1, Wolfgang Grobecker has already departed Milbank’s approximately 35-lawyer German practice. He resigned from Milbank effective yesterday, Munich partner Peter Nussbaum tells Legal Week.The sudden move follows an unusual public claim by Hengeler that Grobecker was asked to leave late last year over alleged, unspecified misconduct, the legal publication states.Grobecker, who has a corporate advisory practice, had spent his entire career at Hengeler. SC orders Bihar and Chhattisgarh to trace missing children within a month; directs MP Chief Secretary to appear on November 20

A Supreme Court bench comprising of Chief Justice H.L. Dattu, Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice Arun Mishra directed the Bihar and Chhattisgarh Governments to trace the missing children in their States within a month. It said that it would take two states at a time to examine whether they have complied with its directions.The Bench showed satisfaction with the efforts taken by the Bihar Government, which traced 169 missing children within a week of the Court’s orders. The State now has an onus of finding the remaining 464 children within 3 weeks.Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar, appearing for Bihar, submitted that in the last one year, 2,874 cases of missing children were registered and 2,241 children were found and 633 are still missing.The Bench also summoned Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh for the State’s failure in finding the missing children. Demonetisation: SC Agrees To Hear Plea For Transferring HC PILs On Nov 23

The Centre today moved the Supreme Court seeking transfer of all public interest litigations which have challenged the validity of demonetization filed in various High Courts to the apex court or to one single High Court.Mentioning the matter before a bench headed by Chief Justice T S Thakur and informing of the filing of the transfer petition, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi said the centre wanted “all petitions ne either transferred to the supreme court which is already seized of the issue or it be shifted to a High Court”.The CJI-led bench assured the AG that the matter would be heard on November 23.
