By Dominique Mosbergen Billionaire media mogul and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has approved a plan to spend at least $80 million of his personal fortune on the upcoming midterm elections. His goal, as was first reported by The New York Times on Wednesday, is to help Democrats wrest control of the House from the GOP. That was the margin of victory for Measure W — a half-cent sales tax that is expected to generate $2.4 billion over 30 years to pay for bus operations, Caltrain service, improvements to highway interchanges and road repairs in San Mateo County. The official election results will not be certified until Dec. 6, but with just 296 votes left to be counted, the outcome for this measure won’t change, Jim Izzary, the chief elections officer for San Mateo County, said on Tuesday. ENERGY AND CLIMATE DEBATEThe eyes of the energy and environment world turned to Georgetown University on June 25 as President Obama unveiled his new comprehensive carbon pollution reduction plan.  The tri-fold strategy includes emissions regulations for new and existing power plants and initiatives to increase domestic renewable energy and energy efficiency usage, including heavy-duty vehicle fuel economy standards and renewable energy projects on public land. The president also announced that he would only approve the Keystone XL pipeline if it is not found to exacerbate CO2 emissions. Additionally, the U.S. will push for an ambitious yet flexible agreement at the U.N.
