The syndicated loan market in Japan amounted to approximately USD 208 billion in size in fiscal year 2014, placing Japan as one of the leading syndicated loan markets after the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. Japanese syndicated lending for the first half of 2015 recorded a total of USD 118.7 billion in proceeds from 1,005 deals, a 4.7% increase in deal count in comparison to the same period in 2014.According to data published by Thomson Reuters, Mizuho Financial Group are the lead mandated arranger with 285 deals in the region equating to USD 46 billion (38.8%market share) and have also ranked number one as bookrunner with 263 deals equating to USD 48 billion (42% market share) in 2015 YTD.In the context of this lending market, the secondary debt trading market has recently shown clear signs of further expansion, with the … [Read more...] about Japan Trade Alert

Japan’s ‘Twitter Killer’ Who ‘Chopped Up People He Lured Online’ Charged With Murder

World Psychiatrists have determined that a man who admitted to murdering and dismembering nine people can be held liable for his crimes. Takahiro Shiraishi, 27, used Twitter to approach people who had expressed suicidal thoughts. He lured eight women and one man, between the ages of 15 and 26, to his flat in Zama, Tokyo, Jiji Press agency reported. He strangled all his victims and stole their cash. All of the women were sexually violated. Shiraishi was discovered when CCTV showed him with a 23-year-old woman who had been reported missing. A smartphone user accesses the Twitter phone app. Takahiro Shiraishi, 27, used Twitter to lure people who were suicidal. Japanese police found the remains of those he had killed. Japan Prosecutors Set April Date For Ghosn Hearings: Report

Energy and Climate DebateAfter the House failed to move forward with Speaker of the House John Boehner’s (R-OH) Plan B proposal to avoiding the fiscal cliff, President Obama called on Congress December 21 to pass a basic agreement on the fiscal cliff that would preserve middle class tax cuts and unemployment insurance funding, while laying the groundwork for growth and deficit reduction. However, the Administration has since expressed a willingness to settle for a less comprehensive package after a short Christmas recess, but doing so will still require bipartisan cooperation.An outcome for the tax extenders debate, as part of the fiscal cliff negotiations, remains up in the air. Whether or not $70 billion in tax extenders funding is even included in an final end of the year fiscal cliff avoidance package has yet to be determined, as Congress focuses primarily on blocking the full impact of $607 billion in tax increase and spending cuts scheduled to take effect in January. ENERGY AND CLIMATE DEBATEDespite the House being in recess for the Veterans Day holiday, bicameral negotiations on an omnibus appropriations package continue this week. Congress must come to an agreement on the 12 spending bills by December 11, and though appropriators are trying to get the package ready as soon as possible, sorting out specific allocations and negotiating riders, as well as taking into account the Thanksgiving holiday recess, means that finalization of the $80 billion omnibus is not truly expected until the week of December 7. The Senate has a number of other issues on its agenda this week, including long-term highway funding (H.R. 22), for which it is naming conferees to negotiate differences in the first multi-year highway authorization law since 2012, defense authorization, nominations, and several hearings.
