THIS weekend sees the arrival of Father's Day - that annual event when dads get the rare chance to be spoiled. We've already celebrated our mums this year with Mothering Sunday, and dad's special day is on Sunday June 17! Here’s all you need to know... What is the history of Father's Day? Father's Day is rumoured to have started when a young woman wanted to honour her war hero dad. In May 1909, Sonora Dodd sat in church listening to a moving Mother's Day sermon. She then decided she wanted to designate a special day just for her dad, William Jackson Smart. Dodd's mother had died in childbirth and her Civil War veteran dad had raised five kids on his own. The following year, she wanted to celebrate Father's Day on June 5th, her father's birthday. Russian President Vladimir Putin told his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump in a New Year letter on Sunday that Moscow was ready for dialog on a "wide-ranging agenda," the Kremlin said following a series of failed attempts to hold a new summit.At the end of November, Trump abruptly canceled a planned meeting with Putin on the sidelines of a G20 summit in Argentina, citing tensions about Russian forces opening fire on Ukrainian navy boats and then seizing them.Trump and Putin also failed to hold a full-fledged meeting in Paris on the sidelines of the centenary commemoration of the Armistice. Federal Law Minimum Wage Increase for Federal Contractors: Two years ago, President Obama signed Executive Order 13658, “Establishing a Minimum Wage for Contractors,” setting hourly minimum wages to be paid by federal contractors for work performed in connection with covered contracts with the federal government. On January 1, 2015, the minimum wage requirement was set to at least $10.10 per hour. Effective January 1, 2016, the minimum wage rate is set to increase to $10.15 per hour.
