The syndicated loan market in Japan amounted to approximately USD 208 billion in size in fiscal year 2014, placing Japan as one of the leading syndicated loan markets after the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. Japanese syndicated lending for the first half of 2015 recorded a total of USD 118.7 billion in proceeds from 1,005 deals, a 4.7% increase in deal count in comparison to the same period in 2014.According to data published by Thomson Reuters, Mizuho Financial Group are the lead mandated arranger with 285 deals in the region equating to USD 46 billion (38.8%market share) and have also ranked number one as bookrunner with 263 deals equating to USD 48 billion (42% market share) in 2015 YTD.In the context of this lending market, the secondary debt trading market has recently shown clear signs of further expansion, with the … [Read more...] about Japan Trade Alert

Michael Jordan backs LeBron James after President Trump questions player’s intelligence

Aug 4 (Reuters) - NBA legend Michael Jordan and U.S. athletes rallied to LeBron James' defense on Saturday after U.S. President Donald Trump questioned the star player's intelligence in a tweet."I support LJ. He’s doing an amazing job for his community,” Jordan, now owner of the National Basketball Association's Charlotte Hornets, told NBC News through a spokesperson.The comment by Jordan and others came after Trump had tweeted:"Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. Breaking: SC Gets Five New Judges, Total Number Reaches 28

Discussion On Maintainability Of Second Appeal Beyond Substantial Question Of Law

 There is nothing to suggest that the judges are infallible on law or facts. In such circumstances, prescribing that a second appeal would not be maintainable on the question of fact and even on the question of law would not be in the interest of general public. But the Section-100 CPC seems to restrict the appellate avenue so far as second appeal is concerned. It provides opportunity of second appeal only on substantial question of law. This definitely is different from a question of law as the word “substantial” restricts the nature of questions of law. There may be two situations in which a litigant may prefer a second appeal. First, when both the courts subordinate to Hon’ble High Court give concurrent findings. In this situation, one may say that concurrent findings returned by two courts should be given some weightage and therefore the same should not be open for challenge in a second appeal. Energy and Climate DebateAs Congress prepares to return from a two-week recess and the Administration continues its vocal approval of an all of the above approach to energy policy, policymakers are gearing up for debates over a number of energy issues. The House moves immediately to its version of the transportation bill, with a Keystone XL approval provision, while the Senate will take up tax legislation with higher phased rates for the wealthy.Now that senators have failed twice to include energy tax extenders language onto the highway bill, and though there will be efforts to tack on similar amendments to additional measures that move through the houses between now and the November elections, many are beginning to seriously consider a lame duck strategy for adopting a number of the expired or expiring energy tax extenders as part of a larger end of the year package.
