Facebook Facebook banned Cambridge Analytica, a data analytics firm which worked on US President Donald Trump’s election campaign and has been linked to Brexit, from using its platform in March, days before a whistleblower claimed the company had harvested and stored data about more than 50 million Facebook users without their permission. The majority of those users were in the US but the UK’s Information Commissioner issued a warrant to search the company’s London offices after it failed to respond to a previous request about the possible illegal use of data. Here are some key questions for consumers. How can I find out if I’m affected? Dixons says the vast majority of the cards involved – 5.8 million – have chip and pin protection and attackers have not gained access to pin codes, CCV (card verification value) security numbers or any authentication data which could enable them to identify the cardholder or make purchases. However around 105,000 non-EU issued payment cards which do not have chip and pin protection have been compromised. DUBLIN (Reuters) – Yahoo’s European regulator has ordered it to make privacy changes following a probe into what it said was one of the largest ever data breaches to impact EU citizens. Yahoo, most of whose assets were acquired by Verizon Communications Inc <VZ.N>, said in 2016 that at least 500 million of its accounts had been hacked two years earlier by cyber thieves who may have stolen names, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth and encrypted passwords. Ireland’s Data Protection Commissioner (DPC), the lead European regulator on privacy issues for Yahoo because the company’s European headquarters are in Dublin, said on Thursday that Yahoo’s data processing operations did not meet the standards required by EU law.
