By: LIVELAW NEWS NETWORK 27 April 2019 9:44 AM GMT Statement by Former Law Clerks cum Research Assistants at the Supreme Court of India On 23 April 2019, the Times of India published an article titled, 'After allegation against CJI, many SC judges ask for male staff at houses'. The article went on to say: 'Some judges expressed apprehension about employing female law clerks, who like their male counterparts work mostly in residential offices till late hours preparing summary of case files listed for hearing in the next few days before the judge concerned.' The response to a sexual harassment complaint cannot be to ridicule and victimise the complainant, to dismiss the complaint as 'wild', 'scurrilous' and politically motivated, or to deny access to employment to all women. Supreme Court declines to stop Trump administration’s ban on bump stocks
Mark Berman, The Washington Post Published 12:13 pm PDT, Thursday, March 28, 2019 The Supreme Court on Thursday declined to block the Trump administration's ban on bump stocks, devices that effectively speed up how quickly rifles can be fired. Groups supporting gun owners and opposing firearms restrictions have sharply criticized the bump stock ban and challenged it in court, including filing two petitions seeking to delay the ban from taking effect - which it did earlier this week. WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump is driving to execute the same playbook in selecting a new Supreme Court nominee that last year delivered swift confirmation of Justice Neil Gorsuch, following a methodical course in hopes of avoiding the lurching disorder that so often engulfs his White House. As Trump looks to reorient the nation’s high court with a replacement for retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy, he has left himself little room for improvisation – in part because he has delegated and outsourced much of the spadework. Using Gorsuch as a model, the president has said his next nominee will be chosen from a preselected list of 25 candidates, most of them already fixtures on the federal courts who have been subject to public and internal vetting. The interview process for a half-dozen or so finalists is beginning, including private sit-downs with Trump starting this weekend at his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf course, as well as sessions with White House Counsel … [Read more...] about “We have to pick a great one”: Inside Trump’s plan for a new Supreme Court justice
