A STEPDAD looking for two stolen bikes was murdered by a 16-year-old boy armed with a cricket bat, a jury has heard. Derek Whyteside, 42, suffered a skull fracture when he was hit from behind with a cricket bat before being attacked on the ground by two men, Stafford Crown Court was told. Prosecutors alleged that Whyteside was hit with a full swing of the bat after the teen "crept up behind him" on the afternoon of June 18 this year. The jury was told that the victim - who lived with Michelle Beddall and her four children - was attacked by the boy after going to his home to look for stolen bicycles. Prosecutor Kevin Hagarty QC said: "He was looking for two stolen bicycles and also he was looking for those responsible for stealing them. "Whilst he was there, he was struck across the back of the head with a bat. The impact fractured his skull and the fracture extended into his right eye socket." A California teenager was allegedly protecting his mother from physical abuse over the weekend when he shot and killed his father, according to police.Police found Javier Vera, 54, dead inside the family’s home in Fresno, California, on Saturday after his 16-year-old son called to report a domestic violence-related injuring, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.The unidentified boy told officers that Vera had been drinking when he allegedly began to strangle his wife during an argument, investigators said. That’s when the couple’s son allegedly fired the weapon, investigators said.“Deputies learned that the husband and wife had been involved in a verbal argument, which escalated into physical fight,” the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Sunday. “At one point, the man began to choke the woman.
