As the new socially distant reality drags on, hair has become a major topic of conversation on Zoom dates and phone calls. Videos of at-home buzz cuts are inescapable on social media. Celebrities from Ricky Martin to Elle Fanning have dyed their hair pink. Anderson Cooper revealed on air that he accidentally gave himself a bald spot. But not everyone’s feeling the DIY spirit. As cabin fever—and split ends—reach an apex, barbers have begun to offer house calls for those unwilling to pick up scissors themselves. Last month, The Washington Post described a growing “black market of hairstylists” ready to “risk it all” with such visits, but those who spoke to The Daily Beast are not trying to hide their services. Many have taken to advertise on Craigslist and Instagram, charging a bit more than usual for appointments. It helps them keep food on the table and rent paid as salons remain shuttered. “As a professional barber [before coronavirus], I took the risk of getting … [Read more...] about You Can Get a Quarantine Haircut if You Know the Right Barber—and Have the Money

Has Jennifer Lawrence’s Baby’s Gender Just Been Revealed by Ellen DeGeneres?
The Ellen DeGeneres Show is known for its interviews with several Hollywood A-listers and its hilarious host, Ellen DeGeneres herself. On a recent episode of the show, Ellen may have accidentally revealed that Hollywood actor, Jennifer Lawrence and her husband, Cooke Maroney have brought a baby boy into the world. Lawrence and Maroney have been keeping the gender of their bundle of joy private. While talking to Lawrence, DeGeneres and the actor seemed to be having a normal conversation where the host even congratulated Lawrence on her wedding to Cooke Maroney. Ellen DeGeneres accidentally spilt the tea when she mentioned that she lived next to Lawrence and said, “People don’t know this, but I used to live in the house that you live in now when I started the show 20 years ago,” Ellen said. “Now I live next door to you, and I’m looking at you living in my house with a brand-new baby.” While praising Lawrence’s journey into motherhood, DeGeneres said, “By the way. I do hear you … [Read more...] about Has Jennifer Lawrence’s Baby’s Gender Just Been Revealed by Ellen DeGeneres?
Brave cat leaps to baby’s defence after father ‘attacks’ child as it lies in its chair
A brave cat came to a baby's rescue after it believed the child was being slapped by its father. The furry black feline showed off its maternal instincts when after hearing the man tapping hard on the baby's car seat saying "Naughty baby" repeatedly. After jumping at the man's hand a couple of times, the cat is forced to take more drastic action when he refuses to stop 'hitting' at the baby. Launching itself at the man's arm, the cat continually throws its bodyweight at the 'attacker' until he finally stops tapping the baby's seat and leans back onto the sofa bed. Heroic: Cat defends helpless baby from father's 'attack' ( Image: VideoSamorodki / You Tube) And it looks like the cat may have even managed to sink his claws into the man's arm as he shouts in pain before rubbing his wounded skin. It appears the clip was set up to test the cat's reactions - and the man never actually harms the baby. The video, which was shared online by VideoSamorodki on March 29, … [Read more...] about Brave cat leaps to baby’s defence after father ‘attacks’ child as it lies in its chair
Corgi eating treat in front of dogs behind baby gate branded “evil”
Whether it's their basketball skills or Queen Elizabeth's influence (she's owned 30 over her lifetime), Corgis are one of the internet's most beloved breeds. Which is why many of us are willing to overlook any jerk-like behavior, because who can be mad at those little faces ? And one Corgi has gone viral for taking his brutal bragging too far. U/EssentialLillie shared a snap of her Corgi pup munching a treat in front of the other dogs at the office where his mom works, which Reddit described as "evil." Posting to the r/AnimalsBeingJerks thread, EssentialLillie wrote: "He intentionally brought his chew to the gate so that he can eat it in front other dogs lmao." In the photo, the Corgi can be seen nibbling on a chew behind a baby gate, while two other dogs look on in desperation. In an update in the comments, EssentialLillie explained that although her employer allows staff to bring their dogs to work, her puppy is currently confined by a baby gate as they are not … [Read more...] about Corgi eating treat in front of dogs behind baby gate branded “evil”

Monster earwigs, the Hull KR elf, Kipper the cat and 10 other interesting things to catch my attention this week
BOBBIE Goulding was the first person to suggest Parramatta were after Gareth Hock. He was bang on even though the move never happened. This week he's saying Sam Tomkins has already signed for Saracens next season to team up with brother Joel. If Sam wants to make the 2015 rah World Cup that makes sense. Interesting to see if Bobbie does.. Quite intrigued by the new Sky 'casual look' graphics before each game. Ryan Bailey (no surprise) and Tommy Makinson (surprise) look the most menacing so far though both were overshadowed by Saints coach Nathan Brown's massive shirt collars (really scary). Great interview by Jamie Jones-Buchanan with Bailey in Rugby League World this month incidentally, touching on his growing up without a father and his time in the nick. Noel Gallagher, Denis Healey, Thunderbirds beware...there's a new set of monster eyebrows on the block. Catalans coach Laurent Frayssinous appears to have two earwigs (earwigans if he were from Lancashire presumably) … [Read more...] about Monster earwigs, the Hull KR elf, Kipper the cat and 10 other interesting things to catch my attention this week

Tim Anderson let Josh Donaldson know what ‘I don’t play like that’ really means
Josh Donaldson seems confused these days. The once-heralded Yankees slugger just can’t seem to find the words to adequately explain why he called White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson “Jackie” in a game over the weekend, a comment that earned him a one-game suspension from MLB. (In another sign that Donaldson is confused, he’s appealing that light sentence.) Donaldson looked utterly baffled while delivering his best explanation, which is that it was an inside joke that Anderson has laughed at “many times.” As Anderson’s teammate Liam Hendriks put it : “Usually you have inside jokes with people you get along with. … That statement right there was complete bulls—t.” But what Donaldson is doing is working to some degree. While the majority of sports media who lean progressive have sided with Anderson, plenty who report on the game have leaned on the nebulous concept of fairness. On Monday morning, ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith spent considerable time making sure we all … [Read more...] about Tim Anderson let Josh Donaldson know what ‘I don’t play like that’ really means
Julian Castro has endorsed Elizabeth Warren — so hopefully she knows what to do next
Days after announcing the end of his own bid for the presidency, Julián Castro has endorsed another candidate with similar principles. On Monday morning, the now former Democratic candidate endorsed Elizabeth Warren for president. “The American people need a champion in Washington who will be a president for everyone,” Castro declared in a video accompanying his endorsement. “Someone who’s unafraid to fight like hell to make the big changes we need in the years ahead.” Castro’s endorsement of Warren should be unsurprising to anyone who paid close attention to his well-run but drastically underappreciated campaign. Castro was unlikely to endorse Pete Buttigieg, a man with a much thinner resumé than his but who has white privilege and all the political benefits that entails. And considering his exchange last fall with Joe Biden , it was highly unlikely for Castro to declare, “Yeah, that’s the guy.” Oh, Cory Booker is still there, but while he’s made the most of a … [Read more...] about Julian Castro has endorsed Elizabeth Warren — so hopefully she knows what to do next
