A dad-of-four has been handed a devastating diagnosis after he suffered memory problems for 20 years. Phil Burdekin kept forgetting appointments and missing turns when driving lorries. At first, it was easy to dismiss it as stress-related - but over the decades it got worse and the 63-year-old from Southport got increasingly concerned. Speaking to The Liverpool Echo , he said: "I was getting worried - I didn't know what it was, and then my wife got fed up of me asking the same questions again and again, so she said I'd better go to the doctor." Mr Burdekin described the diagnosis of young-onset dementia as a “nightmare” and has said suffering with the condition has left him “suicidal” as he struggles to take part in life now. He added: "It was very stressful. I cried a lot. It was killing me not knowing anything." Vaccine diplomacy will help everyone
Daily cases neared 300,000 in just two weeks, and death toll increased to 42. The cases and deaths could be much larger than reported given the secrecy in North Korea and lack of test kits. North Korea has kept the virus out by sealing off it border with China. It resumed imports of daily necessities by rail from beginning of this year. Covid-19 is suspected of breaking out across the nation after the county held large-scale military parade on April 25. Given what each country went through over the last two years of pandemic, North Korean conditions would only worsen. The case with North Korea is grave due poor nutrition and the lack of food. Vaccines as well as treatments are unavailable. Patients with high fever are said to be treated with herbal remedies. Since authorities cannot identify virus infected due to lack of diagnosis kits, they refer them as “people with fever.” The Seoul government is making the right move by proposing humanitarian aid. It is unclear if … [Read more...] about Vaccine diplomacy will help everyone
Shots! ‘A Little Tequila for My Knee’, Pope Jokes About his Injured Leg with Mexican Priests in TikTok Video
Pope Francis has quipped that a shot of tequila would help him with a painful knee that has forced the 85-year-old Argentinian to use a wheelchair. “You know what I need for my leg? A little tequila!” Francis joked with a group of Mexican priests in a video posted on TikTok that went viral Monday. The pontiff was doing the rounds of St Peter’s Square in the Vatican in his pope-mobile after the general audience on Wednesday when he stopped to say hello to the group of newly-ordained priests, one of whom asked him about his knee. “Very capricious,” replies a smiling Francis, who has had to cancel some audiences due to an injured ligament in his right knee and chronic arthritis. The priest thanks the pontiff for his good mood “in spite of your discomfort”, prompting the head of the Roman Catholic Church to confess he would be even jollier had he some tequila to hand. It is not the first time Francis has wisecracked about tequila. In 2016, ahead of a trip to Mexico, one … [Read more...] about Shots! ‘A Little Tequila for My Knee’, Pope Jokes About his Injured Leg with Mexican Priests in TikTok Video
“Great Replacement Theory” has inspired 4 mass shootings in recent years
A racist ideology is being investigated as the motivating factor in a supermarket massacre in Buffalo, New York, that left 10 people dead on Saturday. Authorities say Payton Gendron, a white 18-year-old from Conklin, New York, carried out an act of "racially motivated violent extremism" when he opened fire at the Tops Friendly Market. Most of the victims were Black. Authorities said they were investigating the attack, which the shooter livestreamed on Twitch until the company shut the broadcast down, as a potential federal hate crime or act of domestic terrorism. A 180-page manifesto , purportedly authored by Gendron, said the attack was motivated by the "Great Replacement Theory"—a racist conspiracy theory that claims white people are being replaced by minorities and people of color. The ideology fueled the deadly 2017 rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, where white supremacists chanted "Jews will not replace us." The belief has also incited a string of mass killings in … [Read more...] about “Great Replacement Theory” has inspired 4 mass shootings in recent years

Nestor Cortes deletes his Twitter account after old tweets surface: ‘It’s not who I am’
BALTIMORE — After taking over as the American League ERA leader on Sunday, Nestor Cortes took down his Twitter account. While the 27-year-old was on the mound in Chicago, fans had combed through his social media accounts and found Tweets and Instagram posts from 2012-2015 where he used a racial slur. Some of his tweets appeared to be quoting from rap lyrics. Cortes took responsibility Monday. “I hate myself for having done that, it’s not who I am or want to be,” Cortes said. “I found out about it [the social media posts going viral], I sought out help on how to handle it and I am taking a break so that going forward I can use [social media] in the right way. I want to have a good message, especially for kids.” While Cortes was mowing down the White Sox Sunday , fans of a Yankees rival found the tweets and social media posts and put them together. At the time of the posts, Cortes would have between 17 and 20 years old. “I didn’t know how it happened, but it doesn’t … [Read more...] about Nestor Cortes deletes his Twitter account after old tweets surface: ‘It’s not who I am’
Yankees’ Cortes deactivates account after old tweets surface
BALTIMORE (AP) — New York Yankees left-hander Nestor Cortes said he deactivated his Twitter account after screenshots surfaced Sunday of tweets from a decade ago that included racial slurs. Cortes appeared to be quoting rap lyrics in at least some of the tweets, and he did not seem to be using the words to demean anyone directly. “I felt like it wasn't the right message that I wanted to send out, when I was 17 years old," Cortes said before Monday's game against Baltimore. "Those happened 10 years ago. I deactivated my Twitter to clean stuff up.” “It's not acceptable," he added. "I think I could have managed myself and said stuff differently. But I'm here today to say that I'm going to work on it and fix it." ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports … [Read more...] about Yankees’ Cortes deactivates account after old tweets surface

One Michigan couple purchased a school bus with plans to renovate and convert it into a family camper, and in the process are taking millions of TikTok users along for the ride. Emma LaFave, 27, has published multiple videos under her TikTok handle @77seater detailing how she and her husband, Brek, 29, purchased the bus off a public auction website and have put in sweat equity to turn it into something worthwhile. The 2003 bus was bought off Public Surplus, which is a surplus supply auction website, for $4,400. It was purchased last August with Emma admitting "it was something I didn't really think through all the way." "I think we got a pretty decent deal, although bus prices can vary tremendously," she said in one of her videos. The process began with ripping out all the seats and flooring that were "completely covered in rust." Removing screws and a grinding of the rust was followed by treating the surface, painting and laying down sub-flooring. Then the couple, who … [Read more...] about Couples shares DIY journey to convert old school bus into new home
