Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the nation on the 75th anniversary of India’s independence from the Red Fort on Monday underscored that empowering women is crucial for the growth of the country, which is currently in the decade of digital revolution and innovations. Modi said: “Be it education or science, women of the country are at the top…Be it sports or battlefield, India’s women are stepping forward with a new capability and confidence.” “I see the immense contribution by women in 25 years to come, much more than that in the 75-year journey,” he noted. His Independence Day speech also included the major factors which emerged as the wheels of India’s growth vehicle. These include technological innovations, as well as startups from tier 2 and 3 cities. It is believed that participation from more women, in all these fields, will boost the growth of the country, while India is projected to be the world’s 3rd largest economy in the next 10 years. David Bahnsen: Marxist Economic Philosophy ‘Deteriorates Freedom’
David Bahnsen, chief investment officer at The Bahnsen Group, spoke with Breitbart News about how the Marxist economic worldview that is prevalent across American financial institutions today “deteriorates freedom.” LISTEN : Bahnsen opened the interview by talking about the free economics course he recently launched on his website. Bahnsen told Breitbart News Saturday host Matthew Boyle the inspiration behind his course was to provide those on the political right with “a cohesive economic philosophy.” Although people on the right intuitively recognize the “superiority of a free enterprise system, they don’t have a solid underlying economic philosophy,” Bahnsen noted. He said: It always lacks a kind of cohesive foundation of what we believe and why we believe it. I wanted to put some material together that I thought would give people the opportunity to learn economics the way they can’t learn it at a public school where they don’t teach it or at a public university, … [Read more...] about David Bahnsen: Marxist Economic Philosophy ‘Deteriorates Freedom’
In Venezuela teachers march, threaten to strike over low pay, little resources
CARACAS, Venezuela — Public school teachers across Venezuela had planned to use their annual vacation bonus to buy uniforms for their children, waterproof leaky roofs, get new prescription glasses or fix the pair barely held together by adhesive tape. Some expected to get $100, while others calculated a little more or less depending on their years of service and advanced degrees, though only a small number thought they would get around $200. The government, however, paid them only a tiny fraction of that. So, a few days into their long break, teachers have been marching by the thousands around the country, threatening to strike when school resumes or possibly even to abandon their profession. “Right now, I don’t even have a pencil for my children to start classes in September,” said Florena Delgado, who teaches first and fifth grades at two schools in one of the lowest-income neighborhoods of the capital, Caracas. She also makes cake toppers, creates balloon … [Read more...] about In Venezuela teachers march, threaten to strike over low pay, little resources
Column: Tax provisions may be Democrats’ most unexpected victory in the inflation bill
The budget reconciliation bill just passed by the Senate and heading for final congressional approval offers dramatic improvements in American policies aimed at fighting global warming and improving healthcare. There’s too much in this legislative smorgasbord that Democrats have dubbed the Inflation Reduction Act to cover in one sitting, so I’ll focus on one topic that’s sure to interest almost everybody: taxes. The measure addresses tax policy in two major ways. One is a steep increase in funding for the Internal Revenue Service. These resources are absolutely not about increasing audit scrutiny on small businesses or middle-income Americans. — IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig, assuring the Senate that he’ll use agency funding to go after rich tax avoiders The IRS has been on a congressionally imposed starvation diet virtually since the 1970s, which has been a get-out-of-paying ticket for corporations and the wealthy for all that time. Govt. softens stand on foreign funded trips by officials
Even as the government demands more accountability from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that receive foreign funding, and activists who go on trips funded by foreign governments and agencies, a new notification by the Finance Ministry is more than willing to allow government officials to go on such trips. The office memorandum (No.4(4)/E.Coord/2015) has raised eyebrows in the Ministry of Home Affairs that has to clear such trips. The O.M., as it is called, was issued on January 5 this year detailing instructions for foreign visits of government officers, as part of a cost-cutting exercise. On Monday The Hindu had reported on the inter-ministerial war with the Ministry of External Affairs over restrictions on travel in the report. Now, MHA sources say that the language of the memorandum when it comes to allowing foreign governments/agencies to pay for officers’ international travel is also “problematic” and can expose them to “being courted” by those agencies. However, total value of bitcoin and other such virtual currency trades in India is estimated to be worth only a few crores as of now, although NRIs living abroad are expected to be dealing with bitcoins in a big way. According to those dealing in bitcoins and other such currencies, RBI’s caution notice and action initiated by enforcement agencies in the country has been a major dampener and could come in way of launch of Indian versions of such currencies and that of exchanges providing trading platforms. Louisiana GOP Passes Resolution Supporting NRA’s Fight for 2A Rights
The Republican Party of Louisiana (LAGOP) unanimously passed on Saturday a resolution in support of the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) defense of Second Amendment rights. The resolution begins by pointing to LAGOP’s “[commitment] to defend and promote the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, as memorialized in the Platform of the Republican Party, for all law-abiding Americans and Permanent Resident Aliens.” It then points to the “more than 130,000,000 firearms owners in the United States” and emphasizes Democrat efforts to “exploit and weaponize horrific mass murders to diminish and systematically destroy our Second Amendment rights through introducing more gun-control legislation.” The resolution suggests Democrat policies make it harder for low-income families to acquire the firearms they need for self-defense while subsequently endangering those families via support for Antifa and BLM: Leftists’ encouragement and financing of Antifa and BLM riots and … [Read more...] about Louisiana GOP Passes Resolution Supporting NRA’s Fight for 2A Rights
Here’s What We Know About The Secretive Hedge Fund Behind The GameStop Story
Electronics retailer GameStop made headlines in late January after the company’s share price surged more than 1,000% over two weeks — a market frenzy created by an online community of retail investors betting against institutional investors on Wall Street. GameStop’s existing shares had been shorted nearly 140% with the expectation that the security would decrease in value. The company’s business model of selling physical video games and electronics faced severe disruptions this past year due to the coronavirus pandemic and a surge in digital retail, according to investment forum Seeking Alpha. But institutional investors who shorted GameStop were caught in the squeeze and faced substantial financial losses. Many of the online retail investors who drove up GameStop’s share price used the popular investing app Robinhood, which came under fire after restricting transactions for certain securities due to “significant market volatility.” The logos of video game retail store … [Read more...] about Here’s What We Know About The Secretive Hedge Fund Behind The GameStop Story
