Bitcoin price news – Crypto markets teeter towards tentative recovery

May 17, 2022 by www.independent.co.uk

Bitcoin has managed to bounce back after crashing to an 18-month price low over the weekend. The cryptocurrency is trading at around $30,000 at the start of the week, marking a 56 per cent drop from its all-time high last November, while other leading cryptocurrencies are also way down from their record highs. The downturn has seen more than $1.5 trillion wiped from the market and led to warnings from analysts that another “crypto winter” similar to 2018 may be underway. Bitcoin’s precarious price comes as El Salvador President Nayib Bukele hosts 44 countries on Monday to discuss the merits of the cryptocurrency and the benefits of adoption. Eight months after El Salvador made bitcoin legal tender, several other countries appear close to adopting the cryptocurrency despite warnings from the IMF and some figures within the industry. You can follow all the latest news, analysis and expert price predictions for bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Cardano (ADA), Solana … [Read more...] about Bitcoin price news – Crypto markets teeter towards tentative recovery

Woman donates 45 gallons of breast milk amid baby formula shortage

May 17, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

A mother has donated more than 45 gallons of her surplus breast milk to help families struggling to feed their own infants amid the national baby formula shortage . Andrea Heidenreich, of Dubuque, reached the incredible milestone on Saturday (May 14) with her final donation to the Mother's Milk Bank of Iowa in Coralville. Frantic parents have increasingly turned to human milk banks to feed their babies, after facing empty supermarket shelves when supplies of formula plunged following a product recall over safety fears in February . And Iowa was one of the six worst-hit states, with more than a 50 percent out-of-stock rate, according to local news channel KCRG. Heidenreich told the station: "Sometimes women can overproduce breast milk, and I was one of those overproducers. We just decided we could help other parents and babies along the way. There are parents that are very stressed out trying to find formula to feed their babies and for moms who aren't able to breastfeed … [Read more...] about Woman donates 45 gallons of breast milk amid baby formula shortage

May 17, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

Queen Elizabeth II has made a surprise visit to open a new railway named after her, raising hopes she will play a prominent role in her Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The 96-year-old monarch has been experiencing what Buckingham Palace has called "episodic mobility problems" significant enough to mean she could not attend the State Opening of Parliament, when she traditionally sets out the government's annual agenda. Yet on Tuesday the queen officially opened the long-anticipated Elizabeth Line at Paddington Station, central London. It was her second in-person visits outside of royal palaces within days, arriving hot on the heels of a trip to the Royal Windsor Horse Show on Sunday. "Definitely things are looking up," Ingrid Seward, author of Prince Philip Revealed , told Newsweek . "I think she's off to Scotland for a few days to rest now. She always does go up this time of year. It's very positive." The jubilee weekend could be a busy time for the 96-year-old Monarch, … [Read more...] about Queen’s surprise visit a “very positive” sign for attendance at jubilee

May 14, 2022 by www.mirror.co.uk

A giant shark caught on camera scouring the bottom of the Mariana Trench has sparked debate about if megalodons still exist. The huge predator can be seen swimming over what seems to be an abandoned shark cage. The giant prehistoric shark, called a megalodon, ate everything in its path and was said to lurk in the Earth’s deepest oceans. Some believe this footage, which has remerged after being filmed in 2018, is proof the sharks are not extinct and it has sparked a debate online. One wrote: “I think they went deeper into the seas like the giant squid which is why we never see them." Another added: “Our oceans are huge and there are vast areas that are still unexplored. I wouldn't be surprised if there are megs outs there.” The shark was seen in the Mariana Trench Get the news you want straight to your inbox. The long shadow of Princess Diana will still be felt by Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, on their current tour of Canada, royal commentator Rafe Heydel-Mankoo has told a British news station. The comments made by Heydel-Mankoo were broadcast on GB News as the prince and duchess left Britain on Tuesday to embark on their tour of Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as Ottawa and the Northwest Territories in Canada from Tuesday through Thursday. The tour is being made to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II , who is also the Queen of Canada. Michael Sussmann trial: What we know about the John Durham probe

May 17, 2022 by www.newsweek.com

The trial of Michael Sussmann, a lawyer charged with making a false statement to the FBI in 2016, is set to begin Tuesday in what will be the first case from special counsel John Durham to go before a jury. Sussmann, who worked with Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign , is accused of lying during a meeting he requested with the FBI's general counsel so that he could share information that, he alleged, showed covert communications between the Trump Organization and a Russian bank. The meeting took place on September 19, 2016, weeks before the presidential race between Clinton and Donald Trump , according to a Justice Department news release announcing Sussmann's indictment in September 2021. Durham was appointed special counsel in October 2020 by then-Attorney General William Barr . He was told to "investigate whether any federal official, employee, or any other person or entity violated the law in connection with the intelligence, counter-intelligence, or … [Read more...] about Michael Sussmann trial: What we know about the John Durham probe
