Analysts from the Cook Political Report, who predict the probable outcome for U.S. House of Representatives races, updated their rating Tuesday on eight House races, showing six races moving in favor of the Republicans. The rating changes were made as inflation has continued to skyrocket, and President JoeBiden — who has caused many candidates to go back and forth on if they want his support — has seen a steady stream of low poll numbers. Most recently, his approval rating is at 32 percent, the lowest in his presidency — with a 57 percent disapproval — on the CIVIQS rolling job-approval average, which gave him a total net approval of negative 25. Four Districts in California were moved towards the Republican candidate, as well as one in Pennsylvania and one in Rhode Island. The two districts whose ratings moved in favor of the Democrats are in California and Florida. In one of the more shocking changes from the Cook predictions, Rhode Islands’s open Second Congressional … [Read more...] about Cook Political Report Moves Six House Races Towards GOP

MP attempts to bring Boris Johnson to justice with law to ban lies from politics
An MP will launch a fresh attempt to bring “world-beating liar” Boris Johnson to justice as she bids to ban lies from politics. Plaid Cymru’s Westminster leader, Liz Saville Roberts, unveils a Bill to Parliament on Tuesday in the latest struggle to hold the Prime Minister to account. The Tory chief already faces a probe by the Commons Privileges Committee into claims he deliberately misled MPs over Partygate. He has been repeatedly accused of lying during a 20-year career in politics, but attempts to oust him have so far failed. Ms Saville Roberts told the Mirror: “Boris Johnson is a world-beating liar - we all know it, yet our political system is incapable of holding him to account for it. Plaid Cymru MP Liz Saville-Roberts wants to change the law to stamp out lying in politics “I will bring a Bill before Parliament this week to punish politicians who deliberately lie to the public.” She highlighted Partygate, misleading the Queen into proroguing Parliament in 2019 … [Read more...] about MP attempts to bring Boris Johnson to justice with law to ban lies from politics
Democrats and Republicans trust each other less as politics continue to be deeply partisan, study finds
Amid widening partisan divides and an increasingly freighted presidential election, interparty relations are souring and Americans across the political spectrum are becoming more distrustful of one another, a new Pew Research Center survey has documented. Even during the fiercely contested 2016 election, sizeable portions of Democrats and Republicans expressed "neutral" opinions toward one another. But those accommodating attitudes have greatly dissipated during President Donald Trump's first term, shrinking by 12 points among Democrats and eight points among Republicans since 2016. In its place, both parties express much colder opinions of each other. While 61 percent of Democrats and 69 percent of Republicans had an unfavorable opinion of the other party in 2016, by September 2019 those numbers surged to 79 percent and 83 percent respectively. That mistrust has percolated through many other trans-partisan views, Pew found. Most Republicans and Democrats say members of the … [Read more...] about Democrats and Republicans trust each other less as politics continue to be deeply partisan, study finds
The US must brace for more political violence from the far right | Opinion
Former President Donald Trump is courting violence by leaning into conspiratorial narratives about the intentions of the January 6th Select Committee and investigation. He is stoking domestic extremists' distrust of American institutions and their belief that there is no political solution to addressing their grievances. If new attacks on these institutions follow, who will be surprised? Further stoking the flames, Trump has once again used the power of the presidential seal to promote narratives that undermine American democracy and that echo far-right extremist rhetoric. Sticking to his usual talking points at the 2022 Faith and Freedom Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, on June 18, Trump pushed more election fraud conspiracies and unrepentant rhetoric surrounding the Jan. 6 insurrection. Most concerningly, Trump's fixation on former Vice President Mike Pence 's unwillingness to illegally overturn the election results on Trump's behalf will further invigorate domestic … [Read more...] about The US must brace for more political violence from the far right | Opinion

Maharashtra political turmoil updates | June 25, 2022
The national executive meeting of the Shiv Sena on Saturday passed six resolutions giving absolute rights to Maharashtra Chief Minister and party president Uddhav Thackeray to take action against the rebels to bring the revolt within party under control. The meeting was called in the wake of Sena MLA Eknath Shinde’s rebellion, which has not only destabilised the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in the State but also poses a risk of the Thackerays losing control of the party. The executive meeting was meant to reaffirm Mr. Thackeray’s control on the party organisation as before. It also passed a resolution barring any other individual or group from using the name of late Balasaheb Thackeray, the founder of the Shiv Sena. The party executive however did not remove Mr. Shinde from the ‘leader’ position within the organisation and all rights have been given to Mr. Thackeray to decide on the same. It has written a letter to the Election Commission of India (ECI) informing that the … [Read more...] about Maharashtra political turmoil updates | June 25, 2022
Blake Masters’ Views on Gay Marriage May Surprise His Political Master Peter Thiel
Republican senatorial candidate Blake Masters enjoys the financial and political support of his longtime friend, mentor, and billionaire business partner Peter Thiel , who is gay. But Masters, who attended Thiel’s wedding, also apparently believes Thiel’s marriage should be illegal. “It’s not just Disney, you know—‘follow your heart,’” Masters said at a campaign event earlier this year. “It has a point.” That “point,” he said, is making children. And since there’s no procreation within same-sex marriages, Masters reasoned, those unions don’t have a point—and therefore should be banned. Masters, 34, shared this perspective in February with an audience at a Republican Women’s Club event in San Tan Valley, Arizona, where he’s running for Senate. The 2015 Supreme Court decision that legalized gay marriage, he told this group, amounted to “squinting and making up so-called rights in the Constitution.” “The Supreme Court should not be deciding gay marriage. If this … [Read more...] about Blake Masters’ Views on Gay Marriage May Surprise His Political Master Peter Thiel
Political Matrix: How Cooperative Movement Has Shaped Up States and Influenced Power Structures
Gujarat, where the assembly election due this year, has cooperatives, which matter a lot in the development of society and politics. The Gujarat cooperative movement is quite strong in the domain of agriculture products such as cotton, groundnuts, coriander leaves, garlic and other commercial agricultural products, dairy, milk products and handicrafts and the sugar sector. The Congress retained its influence in the cooperative movement of Gujarat for a long time but now it is in the deep influence of the BJP, which has displaced the Congress leaders from the cooperative network and has become an influential part of it. It helped the party in – providing space to its cadre to do mobilisational politics thus becoming influential in the local power structure, and providing jobs to them to survive and sustain their life. How Harry, Meghan paved the way for William, Charles to be more political
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 's comments after moving to the United States may have helped Prince William and Prince Charles usher in a new era of political royalty. Britain's next two kings have recently attracted headlines with the kind of political commentary that is supposed to be forbidden among royals, tackling explosive subjects including racism and immigration. However, the landscape of British royal reporting has been transformed during the seismic years in which Harry and Meghan left the United Kingdom for a new life in the U.S. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex walked down paths not trodden by working members of the British royal family within months of launching their new lives outside the palace. The allegations of racism made during their interview with Oprah Winfrey also created pressure on the royal family to demonstrate they could serve the U.K. as a whole, including its diverse population and the 54 nations of the Commonwealth. Prince Harry and Meghan … [Read more...] about How Harry, Meghan paved the way for William, Charles to be more political
Maharashtra Political Tussle Shows Why Dynastic Politics is on the Way Out
Maharashtra is currently the theatre where the dangers of dynastic politics are on full display. Amid the ongoing political turmoil in the state, it has become amply clear that political dynasties are the biggest threat to democracy. The fortunes of those who are in politics only on the basis of their surnames are dwindling in the state. When Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut arrogantly asked members of his party who have chosen to part ways to “seek votes in the name of ‘apne baap’ (your father) and not Balasaheb Thackeray,” he showed that dynastic politics is the evil that breeds contempt and disregard for people who too have contributed to the party through their sweat and blood. Turning political parties into family-run enterprises is an old scourge of India politics. A challenge which began to take roots right after Independence. It was in the 1950s that the Congress sowed the seeds of dynasty in the party system and since then the undemocratic practice has only spread. It has … [Read more...] about Maharashtra Political Tussle Shows Why Dynastic Politics is on the Way Out
