Former President Donald Trump took a victory lap over the weekend and celebrated the Supreme Court 's striking down Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 ruling that provided constitutional protections for abortions. The three justices appointed to the high court in Trump's single term—Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett —were instrumental in the decision to "upend the scales of justice and eliminate a fundamental right for women in this country," President Joe Biden noted in a statement after the decision came down on Friday. Trump, on the other hand, hailed it as "a victory for the Constitution, a victory for the rule of law, and above all, a victory for life." Garry Marshall ’s romantic comedy “Pretty Woman” starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts continues to wow audiences through both the 1990 film and subsequent musical adaptation. But how does one translate a beloved musical from screen to stage? Marshall had always wanted to create a Broadway musical. Speaking with Variety , daughter Kathleen Marshall says, “He felt ‘Pretty Woman’ was the one to make. Barbara [Marshall’s widow] would always encourage him to think about it.” It wasn’t until 2013 when Marshall and the film’s screenwriter J.F. Lawton reconnected to write the musical. Meow, miaou, yaong, nyan, näu: Humans say 'meow' in different ways, depending on what part of the world they're from, but do cats? This is the question researchers at Lund University in Sweden are trying to answer in a new study on feline communication. Over the course of the next five years, phonetics specialists will look at cats and their human companions from two separate regions of Sweden to study intonation, voice and speaking style in human speech addressed to cats, as well as in cat vocalizations addressed to humans. "We want to find out if cats from different regions have different 'accents,'" Susanne Schötz, an associate professor of phonetics at Lund University and one of the researchers involved in the study, tells Newsweek . Ohio To Bring Law Which Will Allow Teachers, Staff To Arm Themselves In School
Ohio is set to enact a law that allows teachers and other staff to be armed with guns in schools once they have completed up to 24 hours of initial training. Proponents hope armed teachers will reduce the frequency and deadliness of school shootings, which have become recurrent in the United States. The bill’s opponents, including teachers’ unions and the state’s main police officer union, say it will only make schools more dangerous for children. The bill was finalized 10 days after a teenager with an AR-15-style rifle attacked a school in Uvalde, Texas.
