POLITICS 05/21/2018 11:13 pm ET So Mexico's not paying for it? By Mary Papenfuss President Donald Trump needs at least $22 billion for the U.S.-Mexico border wall he wants to build, so a Tennessee lawmaker has introduced a bill that would let him crowdfund the money. The Border Wall Trust Fund Act, introduced Friday by Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.), would “allow the secretary of the Treasury to accept public donations to fund the construction of a barrier on the border between the United States and Mexico, and for other purposes.” Under the bill, the treasury secretary would establish an account for the donations and “create a publicly accessible website to receive such gifts.” The bill also calls for money to be used to construct a mile-long “commemorative display” to honor donors — unless the “secretary determines that length to be impracticable.” When Black appeared on Fox News Monday to discuss the … [Read more...] about Lawmaker Introduces Crowdfunding Bill To Pay For Trump’s Border Wall
0 View Comments Rep. Diane Black, a Republican running for Tennessee governor, has introduced legislation that would let people and companies donate to the construction of a U.S.-Mexico border wall. Her bill would create an account at the Treasury Department to take donations that would be used to fund President Trump's biggest campaign promise, after Congress failed to give him the $25 billion he requested in January. "While Democrats block commonsense border security and put illegal immigrants before our families, we are going to put America first. Real immigration reform cannot be achieved without a secure border," Black said in a statement. TheBorder Wall Trust Fund Act would allow money deposited in the Treasury fund to be used for "planning, designing, constructing, and maintaining a barrier along the international border," her press release stated. "The most important job of the federal government is the safety and security of the American people, and if citizens in … [Read more...] about Would you donate money to build the border wall?
President Donald Trump is expected to raise his demands for border-wall funding this fall, up from $1.6 billion for 2018 to $2.5 billion for 2019. The D.C. establishment is likely to reject the new border wall demand — unless Trump uses his low-immigration/high-wages immigration promises, the November elections and the retirement of House Speaker Paul Ryan to get his populist political allies into power in Congress. The reports are appearing in Politico and the Washington Post. The Post reported: the White House plans to increase its funding request for the wall in the 2019 budget year from $1.6 billion to $2.5 billion, according to two officials knowledgeable of the situation. The promise of a bigger funding demand comes after Trump’s popular immigration-reform, and border-wall agendas were successfully blocked in 2018 by the bipartisan establishment. The establishment is now pushing Trump to talk up the problems of illegal immigration, the benefits of … [Read more...] about Trump to Demand $2.5 billion for Border Wall in 2019

Diane Black, R-Tenn., last week, would create a “border wall trust fund.” People could donate any amount of money to it, with the funds specifically designated for “whatever it takes to build the wall” -- from supplies to salaries. It would be overseen by the Treasury Department, according to Black. “Real immigration reform cannot be achieved without a secure border -- President Trump has been clear about this since day one,” Black, a member of the House Budget Committee, said in a statement. “The most important job of the federal government is the safety and security of the American … [Read more...] about Trump border wall crowdfunding possible under Tennessee lawmaker’s ‘trust fund’ bill
Peter Kirsanow, a member of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, says discussion of an amnesty for illegal aliens should be halted until a wall is secured along the U.S.-Mexico border and major cuts to legal immigration are enacted. In a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan, Kirsanow warned of the impact an amnesty for millions of illegal aliens who are enrolled and eligible for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program would have on working and middle-class Americans and, specifically, black Americans. Kirsanow writes: The negative impact of illegal immigration on unskilled and low-skilled American workers has been established by various studies and discussed in numerous hearings, including, but not limited to, a 2008 Commission briefing. The testimony at the briefing indicated that illegal immigration disproportionately affects the wages and employment opportunities of African- American men.
