The Star Education Fair KL is back, with rebates, discounts and more

BUKIT JALIL: The Star Education Fair 2022 is back with a bang, with scholarships in tow for prospective students. Some of the biggest education institutions are gathering once again under one roof to dish out rebates, discounts and scholarships to prospective students, as well as answer questions about studying locally and abroad.

Mahsa University Centre for Pre-university Studies director Masitah Mat said students who register on the spot with the varsity stand a chance to receive rebates.

"Students who register during the fair, depending on their qualifications, can receive conditional offer letters on the spot along with a special rebate of RM700.

"There are multiple discounts and rebates up for grabs at our booth throughout the weekend.

"There are special scholarships, too, depending on the programme," she said yesterday.

She said the varsity has various courses apart from medical programmes, such as business, early childhood education, biotechnology, artistry and beauty.

Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation vice-chancellor Prof Dr Ho Chin Kuan said the university wanted to help students from various backgrounds achieve their aspirations.

It has financial assistance schemes for students from different financial backgrounds.

"SPM leavers with straight As can obtain full scholarships.

"There's something for everyone. We also offer sports scholarships for students who have excelled in and represented the country or state in sports.

"We believe that financial challenges should not hold a person back from achieving their dreams," he said.

Management and Science University (MSU) engagement and enrolment manager Nhizmah Darman said the varsity's focus area programmes included pharmacy, medicine, health sciences, and its evergreen course – business management.

Its Continuing and Extended Education Centre manager of enrolment Norazril Shamsul Abu Hassan said registration fees for MSU's programmes were normally RM1,800, but prospective students who register during the fair would enjoy a RM1,500 discount and pay only RM300.

"There are also scholarships worth up to RM100,000 available for our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes," he said.

City University deputy vice-chancellor Dr Katherine Poh said full and merit-based scholarships were available at the varsity.

The varsity, she said, offered some 70 programmes.

Its Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism director of hospitality Datin Puteri Julie said the varsity was offering scholarships worth RM20mil to school leavers during the fair.

There are 50 slots available for full scholarships for students who register for their foundation programmes, as well as a RM6,000 allowance for their diploma in fashion design for students who sign up during the fair.

"We also have (diploma) scholarships available in civil and mechanical engineering programmes for the entire duration of the (course)," she said, advising students to bring their SPM or SPM-equivalent certificates.

Students seeking a wider range of scholarships can stop by the Star Education Fund booth.

Star Media Group events senior general manager Corinne Chieng said for the first time, the company was holding both the myStarJob Fair and the Star Education Fair concurrently, providing a one-stop centre for students, fresh graduates and working adults.

"(We) have been running exhibitions and fairs for decades on property, jobs, education, health, homes and living.

"Star Media Group has always been committed to providing equal opportunities and being an advocate for education.

"myStarJob Fair is the ideal platform for both hiring companies and potential employees to make professional connections, while the Star Education Fair is the ideal hub for students to discover the next step in their educational journey," she said, adding that she hoped the two-day event would help in charting career paths.

Admission is free for the fair that continues at Pavilion Bukit Jalil today from 11am to 7pm.

Don't miss out on the interesting talks happening today, such as, "Does TVET have a place in Industry 4.0" from 1.45pm until 2.15pm, and "Lifestyle Trends in Communication" from 3.15pm until 3.45pm.
